Home is Still Home
July 16, 2012 - Toronto - Don Mills

Tracy Simpson Reports:

Thanks to the sharp eyes of Donna Hayes today for catching a view and picture of Quest and one of the juveniles, Blaze, in the nest box today.  Although the young have fledged, they and the adults will continue to use the nest box for shelter from the heat and the weather.  No matter where you roam, home is home.  The same holds true for the peregrines as they continue to use the nest box as a safe home base.

Amora & (Mira or Blaze) couldn't see the band colour

Site Check at Duncan Mill Road
July 22, 2012 - Toronto - Don Mills
Bruce Massey Reports:

After visiting with Ben and Len at the Don Valley ICICI nest site, I popped in to 220 Duncan Mill Road to check up on Quest, Kendal and their three young ones.  When I arrived, I didn’t have any birds in my immediate sights so I started a walk around of the buildings.  My arrival was certainly right at “breakfast hunt” time and so I was anticipating an airshow but it was rather quiet.  A rare moment for this site as the juveniles have been all over the nest building and neighboring area.  As I came around the west side of the nest building, I found one of the juveniles relaxing and digesting breakfast.  I could see by her red tape that this was Amora and she was quite happily preening the day away back at home base.  The flight training for these three has certainly intensified and moved further afield as their aerial skills have become quite good.  Even so, as Amora might say today, there is still no place like home and the juveniles will continue to use the building as their base of operations!

Am at work on a Sunday (yep!) and am hanging with Q&K. Just caught Quest letting it all hang out: sunbathing!

Shot a photo with my iPhone, through my binoculars: tricky!

Kendal Gets a Brief Break at 220 Duncan Mill Road
July 29, 2012 - Toronto - Don Mills
Bruce Massey Reports:

I stopped by the Duncan Mill Rd nest site yesterday to check in on Quest, Kendal and their three young fliers.  When I arrived, Kendal was relaxing on the west end of 220 Duncan Mill Road and the others were off on a hunt elsewhere.  I walked the perimeter but was unable to find another member of the family but my timing was right around the morning hunt and so I was not surprised to see them out.  Kendal looked quite pleased that he had the whole place to himself for a change but we know that won’t last.  Pretty soon the kids will be back and chasing him all over the nest building!!  Enjoy it while you can, Kendal!!

They cut them all off! Now they have to jump sideways to get to another ledge. They always used the bump-outs to cross over. Orrrrrrrrrr, being the bumps are gone, maybe they will stay on the nest ledge longer and we can watch them. The bumps used to hold balconies, which deteriorated over the years.
