Could that be the reason Archer is so late? Is he distracting Unity so she doesn't get into a battle with Beauty? I don't think it was Beauty flying with Archer if two were seen together. Poor Beauty.

There are a zillion reasons-none of which we can really know without reading their minds. The one thing we do know for sure is everything from TS to KP (+ an unknown perimeter) is Archer's territory and his prime directive is to protect that territory from any & all intruders. Beauty and Unity are part of his territory so he will protect them and their scrapes & eggs from any & all intruders. Much more likely he was escorting a "floater" female out of the territory, just as he escorted a "floater" male out of his territory yesterday.

Thanks, Ei. Your explanation makes perfect sense....about Archer defending his territory and his nests.

And another thought to keep in mind-if there are eggs at KP, Archer's arrival & departure schedule here will likely change depending on when Unity needs/wants a break. And he doesn't know her preferences yet.

About 10 minutes ago I was meeting with someone in my office, telling him about the falcons. Just then one flies by the window, and the person I was meeting with said there were two. The two began to fight, engaging in a locked death spiral just to the south of Broad Street over the river. Beauty took off from the nest to join the fight.
Had to be one of the more spectacular sights I've seen out my window.

Good grief! I was afraid of this when Archer started two timing...your area is far too busy with falcons for him to be able to hold two territories for a long time. With all the migrants you get coming through..I fear for him. Really I do.

Let's think positive. Looking at archives, B was on eggs at 2:20. She was off from 2:30-2:34. It looks like she then was on until 2:43. She was off again at 2:52, but back on eggs at 2:53. At 2:55 she appears to be looking at something. She is doing a lot of looking up. I think she is prepared to defend her eggs.

Mark - I'm sure it happened so fast, but did this falcon look like an adult to you?
Perhaps this was the same falcon that Archer battled with yesterday at Kodak Park? Carol P witnessed it later in the afternoon as well, and Dana said it was an adult falcon.
I give Archer a lot of credit keeping up with both sites, but I am afraid these battles could dwindle his strength and take its toll on him. I don't know much about this. Can anyone enlighten?
