We were 'spared' here.  I think it was because we are on the west side of a hill.   There is terrible tree damage that took two young lives. Parks are closed and Verplanck had boats washed up on the road.

So sad! Glad your OK Bonnie!

So glad you are ok, Bonnie!

So hard to believe the destruction this caused.  One of the ABC weathermen said it was a noreaster with a hurricane embedded.  Unbelievable

We just got our power back today (Friday) after being in the dark and cold since the middle of the night Monday. I live near Allentown and millions of homes were without power because of the high winds that caused trees to fall on power lines. It took till yesterday for most of the stores and restaurants to open. Walmart is still without power, a big surprise. Crews from all over the east came in to help restore power and things are finally getting back to normal for most of us. The news is not so good for Long Beach Island, a barrier island along the New Jersey shore between Atlantic City and Seaside. My sister lives there and had to evacuate. Looks like it will be a long time before any residents are allowed back on the island. I just watched a video taken a couple of days ago from the air. The dunes are almost completely gone and the streets are either flooded with water or filled with sand that was formerly on the beach. I've seen plenty of hurricanes hit LBI but have never seen such total devastation. So very sad. It was great to finally get back online and learn that our falcons are all OK.

Does anyone know of any Forum members in Sandy's path who haven't been heard from since Monday?

Not that I'm aware of, but I may not have a good recollection of where everyone lives. Those I can think of...

Colleen T & Lynne in NH don't usually post, but I see they've logged in as of yesterday.

Kapi in VT I've seen on FB & she's OK.

Ginny-who doesn't post much here, but does regularly on ustream & FB-had some minor damage but is OK.

Judith on ustream is OK too.

Quaint town was largely spared from Hurricane Sandy damage!

In the end, however, most said that they had electricity, utilities and internet throughout Sandy’s wrath.

Some places in New Jersey are measuring almost 6 inches already and winds are gusting to 40mph under the mesocale banding...almost blizzard conditions! Transformers are popping left and right. What a mess!

From NJ weather

Well, here we go again! My brother just got his power back on tonight from Sandy!  surprise
