No clue-though I would think if she really wanted to keep it she would have. Strange pair.
I think she is letting him take it, maybe to show him how good she is at catching prey. I don't think she really likes him but he is the only game in town, no other tiercel seems to be able to take over the territory.
If I recall correctly he took stuff last year too. But when it came to Orion he got his act together. Maybe because she let DC hatch the egg. She is a smart cookie.
