I Love it, Aafke! I really enjoy images where people take the time to decorate the bird feeders - the birds don't care, but we do
So Festive!

Aafke - I have a question/observation: I thought the storks left Europe for the winter. Are these early arrivals or do some storks hang around through the winter? They are so coo!

Hi Janet
Yes you are right,
Storks migrate to the south. Here in The Netherlands we have a group of Storks who stays during the winter, they are from a breeding program and they never learned to migrate.
I suppose they are from such a program.

I asked google to translate the page and this is what I got...
"Disabled pair of white storks in the animal rescue station Makov 8 years. Both are permanently damaged wing can not fly and stay in the emergency station.
By last year, has successfully bred 14 pups, who, without parents flew to Africa.
Year have 5 eggs, first bring in April 5."
I guess they're permanent residents
From the home page...
"Welcome to Animal Rescue Station Makov.
Every year in the hands of people receive a large number of wounded, sick, exhausted, or otherwise disabled wild animals. To assist these animals was built in 1993, Rescue Station Animal Makov."

Thanks Ei, thats very usefull and it explains why the White Storks are there all the time!!! Interesting that the young birds flew to the south without the parents.
And I think the black Stork will be a wounded bird too. And now I'm wondering will the deer a wounded animal too?

Google translator is my friend! I did go through the site looking for other animals, but I wasn't able to find a list. I get the impression the cam is the nest cam during breeding season. We'll have to keep an eye on it in the spring!

Today there was a bird of prey visable on the webcam eating from some pieces of meat. Sometimes I saw him together with small birds like in the picture with the sparrows. He wasn't interested in the other birds , he was only eating from the meat. Maybe it's an injured bird too just like the Storks.
