Last night we had a Great horned owl on the Osprey Cam platform. It looked like he might have had a duck meal. GHOs can be a threat to ospreys, taking out both chicks and adults. But we've fortunately never had any problems with owls bothering the cam ospreys.

As some of our fans have likely noticed, we now have only two chicks in the Osprey Cam nest. We think we lost the youngest chick sometime late last week. We watched the TV monitor at the Refuge on Saturday for a few hours, and confirmed we only have two. The good news is our current chicks appear to be healthy and growing fast.

One of our Osprey Cam chicks (probably the older bird) got some serious air over the nest today. Looks like it won't be long before one chick is out and about for its first flight.

Been seeing a LOT of Snow Geese in the area the last few weeks (Maryland's Western Shore - Chesapeake Beach - almost directly across the Bay from Blackwater).

We have three eggs on the Blackwater NWR Eagle Cam! We just got power to the cam and made the discovery. For those wondering about the delay in getting online this year, please read the note we've posted on the cam page:

That's great news! I had checked the cam a little earlier, and it was still down then.
