Falcon Watch- Larry O’Heron- Thursday, June 28 6:30-7:30am
Watchers included Kaye, Sid, Dawn, Carol P, Jeanne, Dan, Kathy G and Joyce.
We had two excellent food transfers this morning. One time was from Mariah and the second was from Kaver.
The juvies are well aware that a parent is inbound. We hear them begin kakking and then they take to the air. It becomes very confusing with all the juvies going to and fro’. But it does bring them out into the open.
Flights covered the tower and the stacks today. At some points, we had five falcons in the air (all four juvies and one of the parents).
When we get so many in the air, it is a spectacular sight. You have two of the five senses saturated with input. The juvies are raising a ruckus with each clamoring for attention and the food bit. And our eyes are darting left and right, up and down in order to keep track of all the falcons, at which we invariably fail. Those with cameras and binoculars can see more detail but have a more limited scope of the activity. The field of vision is limited to the lens. At these times, I prefer to just use my eyes so that I can take in the entire vista of activity.
Maybe at some point we will get all six in the air.

I live in Kansas but have followed the nesting for years. Love all the postings and descriptions – makes me think I can look out the window and see what you are seeing. Keep up the good work!

I have been watching the Rochester falcons on falconcam for three or four years. This is the first year I have read these reports from the watchers. It is a great way to continue to be part of the wonder of these beautiful birds as they leave the nest. Thanks for sharing!

I have been watching the falcons for several years now, and I am so glad you guys have been reporting their progress. The girls sound like they are coming along fine. Thanks for all the good reporting.

I was wondering where the birds go when they leave the area, do they come back to this area, and do they stay together or go their separate ways?

They go their separate ways, some north, some south. Once in a great while one comes back, but not to stay, this is Mariah’s territory. Sad to tell, but most wind up over the rainbow bridge.
