The Students Who Named Bronx Honor Him
Suzanna Lull’s and Valerie DellaCerra’s 4th Grade Class, PS 62, from The Bronx, NY, were so excited to be asked to name one of the Rochester eyases this year. They submitted the name Bronx with the following reason.
“Bronx is for Jonas Bronck who came to the New World in 1639. Bronck’s homestead later became known as The Bronx, a borough of New York City.”
When they heard the sad news that Bronx had been injured and euthanized, they all got together and made posters to honor the young fledgling they named.
Thank you all for choosing such a wonderful name!

Great picture! So happy you got to join us this year at Rfalconcam and hope you will continue to follow these wonderful Falcons. When we all remember the feisty Bronx, we will also think of all of you and the part you played in this year’s season.

You all chose such a great name for a small, but feisty tiercel. Thank you so much! <3

Thank you all for your thoughtful RIP posters. I love the drawing of Bronx with a halo. Yes, as one student wrote, Bronx was a brave one. He flew with such enthusiasm. He was a beautiful falcon, and the watchers in Rochester loved him too.

We mourn the loss of Bronx with all of you. He was a great little flyer in his short fledgling life! 🙂

Thank you for sharing your love of the falcons with us. We will all miss Bronx but we’re happy he got to feel the wind under his wings!

so sad. I want to hug Beauty and DC.
I named Genesee after Genesee Country Museum, where I spin and dye yarn, and teach weaving in week long classes to children, in July.

Poor Bronx..He was so happy, even happy go lucky! His joy in flying was there for all to see. Glad he got to do as much as he did; sorry it was cut short so early in his life..He will be remembered as well as loved.

So sad to hear the news about Bronx. He was Beautiful and full of life. I had the honor of being one of the falcon followers to submit the name of Mercury last year, and I hope that he is living the good life. The children should be proud that Bronx carried the name they chose, even for his short happy life. I still feel the loss of Unity and feel certain that she and Bronx continue to fly the Rochester skies in spirit.

@Freda, I’m sorry I did not receive your official entry into the falcon naming contest. Genesee is a great name.

You picked out a wonderful name for this little guy. Bronx was special right from the start and entertained us so with his antics. He won the hearts of everyone who watched him and he will forever remain an important part of the Rochester falcon legacy. Thank you so much for you beautiful tribute to him.
