Name These Falcons!

Finally! This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for. It’s time to name UF and UT!

The polls are open! From the many excellent suggestions that we solicited from our local bifocaled, bespectacled, balding, binoculared, and/or big-lensed bipedal bird watchers, we have selected 13 candidate name pairs. And now everyone gets a say on which pair of names will be given to Rochester’s fastest couple!

Voting is easy. Just click/tap on the link below. It will open the ballot form where you’ll start by filling in your name and email address. Then select your favorite pair of names and click/tap the Submit button. Be sure to read the brief description we’ve included with each name. It might help you make your decision. We’ll announce the winning names on Monday, May 2nd.

   There were a lot of pairs I liked, but in the end, I wished to continue the Rochester wind theme.

   We already had a Rachel in 2017…Mark B named her.

   I don’t see this as a problem. We’re not naming an eyas that is banded and migrates to another location where it is later identified as a Rachel, and everyone wonders which Rachel it might be. This potential Rachel (has to win the vote first, and that is far from a given) would hopefully be staying in Rochester and be Rochester’s Rachel. And if she ever left Rochester and showed up somewhere else, no one would know who she was because she’s not banded.

   Also, if a different falcon had showed up this spring to take up with UT, and this falcon had been banded and named Rachel, we would not have changed her name.

   And finally, if people still have a problem with the name Rachel, they are free to vote for for any of the dozen other choices.
