What time is gathering and on bridge or in hole?
2  Member Activities / Events / Re: Falcon Watch Weekend 2012 - August 3rd, 4th and 5th on: 02-Aug-12, 10:18:08 PM
I think I can make it on Saturday, but probably not until after 9 a.m. (I have a permanent 8 a.m. phone call appointment.)

Well said, Ei. You summed it up beautifully. I believe that one of the greatest causes of human discontent is the belief that we have to know and understand everything, and know and understand the "why" of everything. We do not, and we cannot.

Sometimes, calm can only come when we learn to sit back and wait, and accept what comes, in the meantime using the words of the Chinese farmer in the old fable, "Maybe yes, maybe no! Maybe good, maybe not!"

Is it possible she's brooding eggs? After all, the transmitter does not transmit constantly, but at intervals, and if she is leaving the nest only briefly to hunt, while a partner takes over, that might not show up on the transmitter info.
5  Anything Else / Totally OT / Re: The Loss of a Rochester Falcon Watcher - Kathy G. on: 26-Mar-11, 06:08:47 AM
I'm so sorry that Kathy G has moved on. I have not lately been able to be active in falcon watching, so my memory is of a time when Kathy G was active, even going back, as you say back to the Cabot-Sirocco days. She was always enthusiastic and happy to reach out a hand to newcomers. Our world is the poorer for her loss, but, given her recent days, I have no doubt that she is in a better place.

Fly free and far, Kathy G.

The current issue of Smithsonian has an article on wild pigs and the amount of damage they do to farmers crops, and that they are steadily spreading across the country and are impossible to eradicate once established.

The old system now insists on publishing one's full email address when posting, which it never used to do. Don't much care for that. But since I still dislike the forum system and find it hugely confusing, and can't now post to this one without my full address being published, I just mostly don't post.

I just said the same thing over in the Pictures thread  happy

That 's one of the problems - too many separate threads with overlapping topics.

3:33 am I imagining things, or is that Archer dutifully covering the egg as the temp drops a bit? And doesn't he look SO like his grandfather who used to do exactly the same thing?!

It's interesting how different in color the egg appears in camera #2 and camera #3 (at 7:34 a.m.). Just shows that sometimes discussions about egg color are based more on a trick of the light than on reality.

11  Rochester Falcons / Satellite Tracking / Re: Ottawa, Quests last report on: 01-Apr-10, 11:01:02 PM
Last tracked on March 24 in Ottawa, near the Ottawa river. Where is she going?

Shes a peregrine - she's wandering! They named 'em right!

Quick question following the "Am I daft...." I don't know about that, but are you English? "Daft" is a very Brit word.

I quote: "There were 24,710 arrests for marijuana offenses in Maryland in 2007, representing an arrest rate of 440 per 100,000, which ranks Maryland at number 4 in the nation."

You don't think it was all imported do you?

Oops - we do know that is intended to be Shaky, don't we!

Good idea for the main menu - and thanks to you, Sahky, or whoever it was who fixed Camera #1.
