So glad she sleeps, usually every time I look, she's awake. Sleep Beauty sleep, you won't get much of that in a few weeks.

We're down to three eggs.  I did notice yesterday afternoon that one of the eggs was dented or dimpled, so I'm not surprised that we're down to three this morning.  More than likely that egg was not viable and Archer and Beauty knew this.  Being first time parents, this is not unusual.  Remember that only two hatched in 2002, the first year that Mariah and Kaver were a pair.

Wow, when I was posting the same time as Carol, I saw the wet spot under the cracked egg but didn't realize it was cracked at the time. Now I know why that egg was out of the loop. Beauty did the right thing for a first time mom. It's sad but it happens.  Sad

At 3:12 pm, yesterday afternoon, I first noticed the dent/dimple in the egg.

Beauty did the right thing, disposing of the broken egg.  According to our friend Mark Nash, CPF, the material inside the egg can be very distructive if it gets on their feathers.

Oh my and oh dear! I know we are all sad about this. But wasn't it amazing that Archer and Beauty knew that something was amiss?  We watch and we wonder - but they know. They are shaping up to be Parents Extraordinaire. Perhaps someone could provide us with a bit of "science" here (not that it changes anything, but it could help us understand)... such as - How do they know? What is the trigger?

Slainte!

Looks like a long way down but if the Juvies end up down there, they can climb the ladder back home.

Phooey. It was probably starting to dry out & was lighter than the others...probably why it rolled out of the group the other day.  But 3 is a lovely number of eggs.

Looks like Kenn's using Camera 1 to search for the discarded egg...

There appears to be no dent on April 25, but on the morning of April 26 the dent was visible at 5:49 am, and later seen at 13:41 (1:41 pm) and 15:12 (3:12 pm).  It was not the egg that rolled away that Archer pulled back in to incubate.  Within 24 hours Beauty realized this egg was not viable.
