Callidora's got the little hop-flap into the box down pat...out of the box, not so much (didn't capture it)

Well, well, well welcome to the world of most falcon fledges. I dont mean to be flippant here, but it could be a dangerous situation for the fledglings this year. Yes, we may have heart failure when they go to the edge. You have been spoiled there in Rochester with ledges and terraces on the Kodak Tower.
If I haven't made the point before, I will now. Cliffs and buildings may or may not have places for the fledglings to make it back to the scrape. Here is my NY list:
Albany No
Syracuse Maybe
Water St No
Riverside Church. Yes
Broadway Bridge. Yes
Verrazano Narrows Bridge. No
Throgs Neck Bridge. No
Buffalo. Maybe
Bayonne Bridge. No
Jersey city. 37th floor and above
Elizabeth NJ. Maybe
Bear Mountain Bridge. No
Nyack beach state park. Yes
Stateline Lookout. Yes
I'll think about the rest more

It's that edge near the camera that causes the heart palpitations. The sides are ok. There are places for them that are safe. And the ramp to get back up.

I just had to look at Lou's pictures again to refresh my memory...the front by the main cam is the furthest drop. The south side isn't as bad as it seems. Not great, but there is a ledge not that far below.
And the surrounding neighborhood isn't half bad either...
(again, thanks Lou!)
Lots of landing choices at various heights if they have enough wing power to float and stay out of the street.

let's hope they keep away from the Main Cam drop.

I hate this part of loving these birds
Thankfully it's been a relatively anonymous dinner season until now.
I agree...I much prefer when the prey is nicely cleaned and unrecognizable even though there's a bigger Yucch factor. The fully feathered Mourning Dove the other day bothered me, too.

Taking notes on flying!
I actually like
this
scruffy phase...the one that bothers me is the baby dinosaur phase between natal and second down...I always feel badly for them then.
Oh just like the barn owls...ugie stage.
At or about 3PM there was an aerial war - both Archer and Beauty went after a rather large (I believe turkey vulture) that was passing through at a high level). The attack brought the bird down lower, and Archer took a "bite out of crime" right down level with the D&C building, sending a good chunk of bird to the street. I think that's why the two are looking up - was a loud and rather rapid battle.

At this point are there wings strong enough that if they did take the plunge they could at least glide with them?
