Just posted to Peregrine Place a few minutes ago...RIP Sweet Dixie  crying crying crying

I am so sad. This is a bad week for us in Buffalo. Grab your tissues before reading on. Our Dixie, Yankee's mate at UB was in a stoop for a pigeon this afternoon, but struck a car instead. This happened at Bailey and Winspear. I was there twice today, seeing Yankee tucked into a corner near the cornices to stay warm, but Dixie was not in view. She could have been in the box though. I came back from Central Terminal, going through Bailey and Winspear probably just before Dixie tragic event. Connie will have her mounted at some point.

Oh my!  Oh poor Dixie!  Reminds me of Unity.  She and Yankee sure have been through a lot.  I hope he finds a new mate soon.    Sad

Oh no! Not Dixie! She is very precious, and Dixie and Yankee have been such a great pair.

What a terrible day.  crying  crying  crying

Joyce and I were there today and missed this tragedy by mere minutes. Such sad news to add to the sadness of Diamante being injured yesterday.  crying

For what it's worth, the Buffalo cams are back online. I wish this had happened some time ago, so that we could have seen Dixie and Yankee together at the nest. Now, with the tragic loss of Dixie, it is much too late.

It bothers me that for the last two years of her life, Dixie was deprived of raising chicks. In 2015, her chicks were taken from her due to renovations at the heating plant, and this year possible toxins from something used in that construction may perhaps have been the reason that none of her nine eggs hatched.  Sad

No one was at the nest when I checked. This is one of the cam sites which only worked in IE (and just barely). I just tried it in IE and Firefox (version 50.1.0) and it worked in both.

New unbanded female at nest bowing to Yankee this morning, I posted some photos to Peregrine Place just now.  Her legs bare and I got enough of his band to positively ID him.  Both still there now, she's peeking around the corner.

Edit to add:  I wonder if they are sure the female they picked up was Dixie?  This female looks like Dixie - they both have a heart shape on the side... I'd need more photos to be sure but she's awfully 'at home' here for a newbie and she was scraping too.

After Yankee flew off over the open area, the female stayed. She is still at the nest. I have been watching too, and saved some pics. Will post some a little later.
