No Slowing Down For Quest

We've been hoping that Quest might find herself a mate and settle into a territory somewhere, but she seems to have other plans. If the transmitter data are any guide, it looks like she's quite content to keep on the move.
On April 16th she crossed the border into New York, spending some time at...

Is it too late in the season for Quest to decide that she wants a mate and to settle down or is next year more likely?

How much longer can we expect her transmitter to work?

I think her 2 years is almost up. May get a few more weeks/months out of it. I guess after 2 years, one would think she'd settle. She'll have to be recaptured and have some new batteries put in...(if they could ever keep up with her). She's a wild woman.

I don't think it's a matter of the battery running out, it's a solar battery. I do believe that the harness is designed to fall off after a couple years. It will definitely be interesting to see how much longer we'll receive transmitter readings on Quest's travels. She certainly does move around alot!

It would be wonderful if she would settle down before that all happens!

Your right Carol and I knew that too about the harness falling off...and it totally slipped my mind. Why I thought batteries.....NOT SURE! Thank you for the correction. She's going to be a tough cookie to trail without her transmitter, (unless she settles before that happens).

Since it is a solar battery, will it continue to transmit signals after it falls off and will someone retrieve the transmitter to be sure it is ONLY the transmitter that is stationary. Has a transmitter been found & retrieved before .... after falling off??
The transmitter should continue to send signals, if it's in a location that receives sunlight.
When Skye's transmitter kept transmitting from the same location, we weren't sure if her transmitter had fallen off or not. It was just west of Toronto, so Mark Nash was kind enough to offer to go look for the transmitter. Sadly, Mark found Skye. She was deceased, possibly due to predation. Skye was still a juvenile and the mortality rates for young Peregrines in their first year is extremely high. Mark was able to collect the transmitter and it was returned.
Quest has made it to adulthood with her transmitter. By all accounts she is an accomplished hunter and we certainly know that the transmitter hasn't slowed her down at all!
