!!! One of the Girls is Home!
August 09, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

I was able to observe one of the girls dozing on the corner of the second tower at Sunlife today.  She was there for almost an hour sleeping and then preening.  I also saw a good poop shoot before she took off..so I know she’s eating well

I watched her fly off south and headed to intercept another bird which I couldn’t ID from that far but she was on it at full speed.  I watched them both until I lost them in the distant clouds.

I can not say if it was Olympia or Windward..all I can say is that is was definitely female as she was big and very healthy looking!

I did get a glimpse of O’Connor earlier this morning on the way into work, she was perched on the nest box ledge.

Settling In…
August 23, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

I’ve seen a lot of O’Connor this past week as she settles in now that kids aren’t around much.  I didn’t see or hear any juveniles this week.

Every morning when I come in, she has been on the center tower where Angel also liked to hunt from in the early morning.  The rest of the time she’s been hanging out on the web cam just sleeping and preening.   She’s been so quiet, if I didn’t know any better I’d swear there were no falcons around!

A young falcon takes flight in Waterloo.

http://www.guelphmercury.com/living/article/786874--a-young-falcon-takes-flight-in-waterloo

WATERLOO — Forget the mountain bluebird and the great grey owl, the most exciting birding event in our area this year has been the news that peregrine falcons have nested successfully atop the 20-storey Sun Life Financial building at King and Union streets in the heart of Kitchener and Waterloo.   2thumbsup

From CPF FB

Had a play date with my little man the other day. Oscar and I had a blast!! We played with a feather for almost half an hour and he was as enthralled with it as I was!!   devil

Miss Remington Elizabeth was much more subdued and wasn't fooled by a feather.

My little Cheyenne, now 2 years old, is all grown up and wants to play the regal female falcon role most of the time. She can still get quite playful though.

BREAKING NEWS!!! MEC WEB CAMERA NOW INSTALLED AND ACTIVE!!!
August 28, 2012 - Mississauga - Executive Centre

Tracy Simpson Reports:

We have some fantastic news for the Mississauga Executive Centre nest site!!  The new IP  colour network camera has now been installed and after working with Mark Nash and Matt MacGillivray tonight we were able to get connected to the CPF website and bring the image to you.  Thank you to Skyreach Window Washers for getting us to the nest box and Matt MacGillivray for the late night long distance tech support!!

We now have a full colour image spanning almost the entire nest box for you to enjoy.  This may also give us the answer to the question of just who the new MEC adult resident female is.  We know that she wears a black over green band on her left leg with a rotated S on the top half indicating an origin in Michigan.  The bottom letter still eludes us but the camera just may be able to help out with that!!  Congratulations MEC for this new outstanding image!!  Check out the webcam link to MEC!!

I was suspicious today when I saw the skyreach folks on site, looks like my hunch was correct Wink

September 12, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
CPF Postmaster Reports:

Sept. 11th - 2012
I’m being told that we will have some very exciting news to report. After a very long time, we will soon have an Etobicoke Sun Life web camera image back up and running with the addition of some very new technologies being added, new partners AND some other very welcomed and long over due nest tray replacement!!

Without saying tooo much and letting the cat out of the bag so to speak, (as we don’t want to jinx the processes), you are all going to be delighted to see what we have in store for the Etobicoke Sun Life Centre peregrines.

Oops, did I say nest cams?

You will have to wait and see. We are waiting for a ride via Skyreach Window cleaning who have one again pledged their support and expertise and agreed to get us to the nest ledge next week to get the jobs done.

In addition to dealing with the web camera’s, we will also be replacing the nest tray and new pea-gravel that is much needed. The old nest tray we installed is has finally starting to rot away,, (well, its been up there since 1997,, as has the old nest camera).

Much of the pea-gravel has been flicked out of the nest tray over the years by the annual scraping of the nest bowl by 15 years of producing adults and many hatchlings doing the same.

This summers visit to the nest ledge to extract the hatchlings for banding showed us that the wood drainage slats in the nest tray are also exposed to the elements due to the depleted pea-gravel and also now rotting away due to the exposure to the moisture over the past 15 years.

Stay tuned for some really exciting news and views out in Etobicoke!!

The new female at Mississauga sports a Purple band! They are working hard to see the other leg band to ID her.

I captured this pic yesterday.

I was just outside here and took a peek at the nest ledge and O'Connor is preening quietly on the cam and then 2 skyreach guys in red t-shirts peek over the rooftop!  I wish I had a camera, that's a sight I never thought I'd see.  She didn't even flinch  Shocked   She's a different bird when there are no kids arounds..dare I say she's 'sweet'  Kiss  (sorry Tracy!)

!!! Both Adults on Site Today
October 16, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

Kathy Reports:

Heard and saw both Jack and O’connor today up on the ledge.  There was some nest box chupping and bonding going on and he stuck around until at least lunch time hanging out on the ledge beneath her.  She was on her new favorite perch as always, preening away in the sunshine.

Last week when Jack was around I did see them both take off after a bird in the distance - it was too far to tell what it was but they obviously saw it as a threat as O’connor  kacked up a storm as they both flew out to give an escort out of the territory.

Otherwise it’s been relatively quiet and peaceful for our resident pair.
