IndyFroona's mate migrates; she does not. For the last few years, she has spent much of the winter at the University of Milwaukee nest with the resident male there, Hoffman. Hoffman's long-time mate, who is unbanded, also migrates. At least once, in the spring, there was a territorial battle in which the Milwaukee female reclaimed her nest. In other years, it seems that IndyFroona simply returns home to her own nest in the spring.
Now that is an interesting tid-bit! Learn something new about pefas every day!

Here is IndyFroona at the University of Milwaukee nest this past winter. She really likes this nest, and she and Hoffman appear quite bonded. I was able to read her band several times; she is banded black/green *V/*Y. In her case that band is on her right leg, and the purple band is on her left leg.
With Hoffman:
The territorial battle with the resident female took place in the spring of 2011.

And here is a pic I saved today of IndyFroona with her mate at her own nest in Port Washington.

KathyQ (from FB)
Deep sigh. Another loss from the class of 2013. Luka was found dead near Southfield MI (north of Detroit). No word on what happened to her or exactly when it happened. Luka - you were a beauty (photo courtesy of Scott Sefton).
Fly free, Luka.

Their lives are so fragile and the odds are stacked against them so let's rejoice when we can for every moment that we are blessed with their presence in our lives as their time with us often times is far too short.
