I'm wondering why we have heard nothing about Kendal for so long. Surely someone must be tracking his progress, or lack of, at a rehab center or wherever he might be. With no news at all, I fear that everyone is forgetting about him. There were only 4 candles lit for Kendal this morning.  Sad

Absolutely not forgetting about Kendal, last we heard he was doing some short flights and is being well cared for by CPF. Some people just don't give updates or they are too busy. I know he has a long road ahead of him. Not everyone remembers the candles, even though I started the page, I tend to forget also!!  paperbag Thanks for the reminder Dot!!  wave

Posted on Harlequin site: New update on Kendal!   heart

October 15, 2013
On The Mend

We thought we'd share some news (and pictures) of how Kendal is progressing from the injuries he sustained during that severe storm last July.

After being treated at the Canadian Wildlife Centre and subsequently handed over to the Canadian Peregrine Foundation for further care, Kendal has now been transferred to the Owl Foundation in the Niagara Peninsula near St. Catherines, Ontario where he is undergoing rehabilitation. The Owl Foundation is a registered Canadian charitable organization focused on helping wild Canadian owls that are injured or orphaned and works to get them back to a healthy condition where they can survive on their own and can be released. Kendal is in good hands as he works his way back from a fractured coracoid that prevents him from fully extending his wing. We are still hoping for a full recovery. Stay tuned for more news on Kendal….

On the home front, Quest is still maintaining residence in her nestbox despite Kendal's long absence and the departure of her most recent offspring, Carina and Luna. Her new suitor, Skye, seems to be getting more and more comfortable and is making a case for himself as Quest’s new mate. Skye, a three-year-old male from Toronto, seems to be doing everything right so far which make us hopeful that we’ll have a thriving nestbox full of hatchlings once again in 2014.

Harlequin encourages anyone who wishes to learn more about peregrines, pledge support or discover what they can do to help this threatened species to visit the Canadian Peregrine Foundation at www.peregrine-foundation.ca

My goodness, Kendal has been in rehab for about three months now.  Thanks for the update, Kris.  And you're right, Donna, he is in good hands and he's adorable.   heart  I hope he's not missing his sweetheart too much and that the future is bright for Kendal, Quest and Skye.

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/10/25/ever_heard_of_a_peregrine_falcon_love_triangle_theres_one_in_north_york.html

Ever heard of a peregrine falcon ‘love’ triangle? There’s one in North York!

Quest and Kendal were a devoted falcon couple, but fate intervened. Enter Skye, a male teenager falcon.

The Star

If not, he could be sent to a sanctuary or possibly euthanized, if deemed unsuitable to living in captivity. Some wild peregrines just can’t adapt and it creates huge stress for them, he said.   scared blue
