A friend of mine is in Antarctica building a new runway

"Just line-up lights.. If a plane lands at night it's strictly "Night Vision Sight"....."


I guess most planes land during the day Janet.

Thanks Donna (and Jeff) - I didn't know the terminology, but line-up lights were EXACTLY what I was asking about. 

New Question:  How are the line-up lights powered?  Solar?  The days are long there now, but what about in winter in July?  Battery?
