Dinnertime Hatch For Second Egg

2nd-hatch-MainCamera_20100518-191200

Even more viewers (nearly 600!) watched Beauty & Archer’s second egg hatch just after 7PM this evening. The sound of the eyas making the final breakthrough was transmitted very clearly, and Beauty was perfectly positioned in the nest box to give everyone viewing our new Live Video Stream a front row seat.

The third egg could hatch later tonight, or it might take as much as another 24 to 48 hours. Watch along with us!

By the way, if you didn’t get to see the hatchings, here are the replays:
First Hatch
Second Hatch

We’ll also put the highlights up on the Rochester Falconcam channel at YouTube.

Video clips of the 2nd hatch will be available tomorrow.

  3. Mary Says:

Is it a concern that the eyases will have to go through the night without having been fed yet?

  4. Alison Says:

How funny, she just couldn’t get everything back underneath her as that sweet little pink body was squirming to get into the warmth. She even tried a sample of eggshell – but it did not suit her taste as it does some other falcons.

  5. ei Says:

@ Mary-newly hatched eyases can go 24 hours or so without being fed. They’ve absorbed leftover yolk into their abdomens shortly before hatching and that sustains them. Rest and staying warm are the priorities tonight.

All so VERY exciting!! Thank you VERY much for the reports AND the streaming video!! Although I was not able to see the hatchings live, I will definitely take advantage of the YouTube postings. Thank you again to everyone at rFalconcam!!

  8. DEBBIE Says:

The streaming video is great. Thanks so much. Too bad there isn’t a video from the main camera too. Is there an easy way of telling Archer and Beauty apart?

  9. ei Says:

@ debbie-They’re a lot easier to tell apart than M&K were…see this forum post for the details http://rfalconcam.com/forum/index.php?topic=1847.0

  10. DEBBIE Says:

Thank you ei. I haven’t really been watching them till recently. I had lost interest last year when the box was uprooted and then Mariah getting hurt. But now I will get to love these 2 as much as I loved M&K. I wish we knew what happened to them both. I was so upset when Mariah was hurt, but also glad she found her way back. Just wish the poor thing didn’t have to lose her home.
