I had just read this on Kate St. John's blog. I have been checking for updates, and had checked the ARL site earlier, before this was posted. I, for one, was not expecting this. What an absolutely heartbreaking loss of this wonderful little juvie.
I know Silver had unlimited courage, beauty and spirit and was such a little fighter. He tried his hardest to survive, and Dorothy gave him the greatest devotion and dedication anyone could.
He touched so many lives in his far too short life, and he will never be forgotten.

Such sad news about Silver, after the ups and downs, and final cautious optimism that he might possibly recover enough to become a well-cared-for "ambassador." Silver and his parents, as well as all of the humans involved, did their very best for a good outcome. Although his life was brief, he did indeed make his mark. Farewell little one.

This certainly wasn't news I expected to hear. Silver touched our hearts and his passing is breaking those same hearts. What a trooper!!

This precious, brave baby
And though much has been said about Dorothy's age, she never neglected him and always was there for him. Fly free, little Silver, you are much loved

I am so sorry to see Dorothy go. No signs of her or of a struggle, so I'm hoping she left us peacefully. What a great mom she was, and what a gift she gave us here in Rochester.

Gone but not forgotten! I will miss her, she was a great mom who passed on her great parenting to her daughter, Beauty!
WOW and Hope is the new mate? Things couldn't get any stranger but yay for E2, he won't be alone! The crazy world of Peregrines. Hope Dorothy left with her head held high!

I am also sorry to see Dorothy go. What a magnificent peregrine. And who could forget her attention to her lone chick this past season. Like Mariah, I hate when a matriarch disappears. I always hope that the next step is kind. I know it's wildlife. I don't care-- I hope that whatever happens after leaving a long time nest, is kind.
