PEACE UPDATE
Peace weighed in at 5.74 pounds, which could indicate a small male with good weight for a 7 week old eaglet. Blood work has been done and sent, and the gender will be confirmed in approximately one week. We do have some results, and the blood test proved no lead. Peace's ears indicated no blood present and were fine. The radiographs were perfect, and muscles were felt and appeared good. Peace could move both feet in a normal fashion, as well as open talons. At this point, there appears to be a possible injury to the right leg, and we are waiting on additional results from blood work conducted. Peace is now recovering at Audubon, receiving pain medication and any needed therapy to help her regain her balance. At this time, we do not know when Peace will be returned to the nest. Audubon is working closely with AEF and providing updates which we will share when received.

A small update from AEF posted last night:

Latest update on Peace from Gretchen earlier - Eating more on own at night but still hand feeding as well. We've been feeding a variety of food including fish, rodents, and chicken. He's gained some weight (a little over 6lbs now).

We all want to know if and when Peace will return to the nest.

It's too early to tell, and we just don't have an answer. The good thing is he is getting care, and we are in no hurry for his return until and unless he is ready to be released from Audubon's care. Please check updates as posted.

AEF-NEFL UPDATE ON PEACE: "It's a boy!" Yes, the Audubon clinic confirmed Peace is male through blood results just received. They pushed him a little harder on his physical therapy today, and they are still working on his balance issue, but he's doing well!

They had said at one point he had an apparent leg injury but nothing after that. confused0083

The two most recent updates I have seen on Peace:

UPDATE ON PEACE: Audubon is treating Peace as a most special patient within a mew (enclosure) inside their clinic. Peace is doing ok. He did some PT walking around this morning. Peace is still hesitant with right foot but can stand and put weight on it.

They continue to test blood every 48 hrs and are closely monitoring him to rule out anything neurological. He is eating and gaining small amounts of weight every day since he was admitted on Friday, February 10. However his diagnosis is still unknown.

Please understand we will not speculate on what is or what is not wrong with Peace. We will only communicate the facts provided by Audubon as results are given. Al Cecere and I are the interface for AEF, and all information is given directly to us from Audubon. Our moderators (both in our chat rooms as well as in our Facebook pages) have no further information. We appreciate your understanding, patience, and well-wishes as we allow Audubon to do their job without our interruption. Please understand we are concerned about Peace as you are, but we know Peace is in good hands at Audubon and receiving the best care possible.

And this one:

Update Feb. 20, 2017

As viewed today, Peace was shy when he first came out of his mew, but quickly pranced around the clinic at Audubon for his PT exercise. He is progressing well and weighed in at 6.5 lbs. He was later feasting (behind closed doors in his mew) on his breakfast. Earlier updates confirmed that Peace is a male eaglet! Peace is a most special patient at Audubon with his own special mew (enclosure) inside their clinic. There is still no specific diagnosis yet.

Meanwhile, Hope has started branching, and a couple of nights ago she was sleeping standing up on the edge of the nest with head in feathers just like her Mom, who was up above her in the nest tree.

A new update on Peace this morning from the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey:

AEF-NEFL Peace Update! Good News... Peace is progressing into the flight at Audubon on Friday. They have constructed an elevated nest platform lined with natural, similar nest material he was used to. They will continue to feed Peace three times a day disguised behind a black curtain. There is one mature male eagle in the flight that is non-flighted who will act as a mentor for Peace. This eagle will encourage Peace and create a sense of normalcy as Peace observes him. Audubon knew something was wrong with Peace, but they do not have a specific diagnosis. The reason for his imbalance may never be known, but it is improving. This step transferring Peace into the flight is very reassuring and a positive step forward.

From FB-

AEF-NEFL Here's Peace just placed in his nest platform inside the 100' x 25' x 20' flight cage outside at Audubon. Peace had a shower today and groceries were left! He will remain there and take flight when he's ready. We look forward to his release in the nest area when Audubon declares him ready.  Until then we will be able to view Peace on a live cam that will stream starting next week!  Here is the link:  www.acfbop.org  We will post when the cam is live.

Hope was up in the tree this morning, enjoying the view. Then she climbed back down carefully, and went back into the nest. She and Juliet shared some fish, and Juliet preened Hope's head feathers.

The new, spacious set-up for Peace looks good.
