Thanks for trying, Shaky.  There was only one box in the "additional permissions" area but I clicked on it and followed the rest of your instructions.  It now tells me that I have exceeded my message limits.  <sigh>

I'm a novice at this whole social networking thing, but I did manage to log into the ustream thing under twitter (once I remembered my password).  Anyway...maybe you could set up a twitter account to use for this?

Something is not set up correctly if you have only one check box: You should have boxes for

Access my data when I'm not using the application and
Publish content to my Wall

The process involves a popup for facebook.
I had the problem because the browser was blocking the popup.
I can't speak to every browser but when you click on the facebook icon to post a comment,
examine your browser for an indication that a popup was blocked and take the appropriate actions, according to your browser to allow the popup.
That fixed my problem.
