I'm so happy for Hunter! Good news, thanks!
Hunter possibly can be a infertile male. He had no offspring with Ranger.
At nest site Eemsmond was also a couple years a pair with no eyasses.  Sad

I was thinking the same thing, Annette.  While I'm happy for Hunter, that he's found another mate, he might be the infertile one so time will tell.

Viper Identified in Lansing Michigan!!!
April 11, 2014 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Tracy Simpson Reports:

This morning we were able to confirm that Viper, hatched to Freddie and Voltaire in 2012, is vying for a nest box in Lansing, Michigan at the Board of Light and Power nest site.  She is one of several birds that are now actively seeking out “property rights” to the box as many different birds have now been captured on camera view (as many as four or more!!).  During the past few days, it has been Viper that has been seen as the regular female attending the box so she may have won the day for the 2014 season.

Her band number was clearly photographed by Dina and posted at BCAW for help in identifying her.  Looking back through our banding records and pictures we can say for sure that this is Viper, banded solid black 22 over W in 2012 at the Windsor Ambassador Bridge. A huge thank you to Kathy and Dina for sharing this news and helping us to get camera shots for identification!  If Viper stays and nests in Lansing she will join 6 other Ontario females now nesting in Michigan.

Congratulations to the Windsor team, the Board of Light and Power and to all that are watching this new pairing unfold across the border.  The first two pictures are from Viper’s banding in 2012 and the second two are from the Lansing Board of Light and Power that were posted on BCAW.  Enjoy!

Playing catch-up in Canada:

Back up to two eggs
April 17, 2014 - Port Colborne - ADM Mill

Doug Garbutt Reports:

After eating one egg yesterday, Trillium laid her 5th egg of the year. So she now has 2 eggs to tend to as the first 3 have been consumed. We have our fingers & toes crossed that these 2 eggs hatch. At this point the egg survival is 2 for 5.

!!! Egg #2 for Viper in Lansing, Michigan!
April 18, 2014 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge

Kathy Reports:

Just caught it at the 7:32 am refresh.  Congratulations!

Sadly, it appears that the clutch (2 eggs) has failed for the Hamilton Sheraton Peregrines. Madame X will be 15 years old this summer and Surge will be 12. That is an amazing age for wild raptors to reach! And of course we know that with age - comes reduced fertility. Madame X is reaching the end of her reproductive years. The pair continue to attempt mating - Fingers crossed they are successful!

Madame X and Surge may have a new egg(s) down at the other end of the scrape towards the cam.  Can't see the egg but she's been laying on something the past 2 days and nights.  The other day Surge dug up an old egg at the regular end so they had buried one of them.  I guess he wanted to move it to where the new one is but couldn't figure out how to do that so it's still sitting there.

Our poor O'Connor is drenched today.  Sideways rain soaked her and we're expecting the next 5 days to be the same.  Sad

Well, if anyone can take a little rain, it's O'Connor...
