Well...I guess that finally answers who was seen in Fort Erie in November...at least to me

Posted today (02/04/2014) at CPF:

Good morning.

November 17th - 2013
My friend and I were out birding the Niagara River yesterday (Sunday November 17th) when we saw this Juvenile perched high up in a tree. Sorry the lighting was awful so the photo isn’t very good but I thought you might be interested and hoped you could identify it by the leg bands. I don’t know the name of the park but it was at the head of the river near the Fort Erie historical site and it was 11:20am.
The photos have been colour and light edited to see if the leg band number can be more visible.

Cheers.

Paul Reeves

I had sent an email that was apparently buried...in short...I read the band as 97/BA...next on the banding ring after Rosetta. Where did DEC go after us?

Well, what do you know.  It's the undisclosed Blue 97/BA girl in Fort Erie. She's very pretty!  Thanks for updating this, Joyce.  It's a great resource.

Well, technically, until he and Billie produce an eyas together, we still aren't 100% sure  gum

Nope. Sabrina wasn't officially changed to Valiant until he and Zanar had eyases, even though Zanar was banded as female.

The only one I know who was re-gendered before eyases is Oliver/Olivia at the Sheraton last year. And that was only because when she was rescued they saw she had outgrown the male band, remeasured her and she then fit a female band.

WE can call them what WE believe to be true; but the banding record cannot change before eyases as proof.

No.

MAK said the gender of 99 needed to be changed.

I'm saying the official NYSDEC banding information that lists 99 as a female cannot be changed until it is proven that 99 is a male as we presume him to be.

The same that WE all believed Sabrina was a male fromthe time he was in the nest.  NYSDEC would not change the gender until he had produced eyases and was not the one to lay the eggs.

Aconcagua was banded as a male, but was obviously a female.  She was the youngest (just a small white fluff ball) when banded and grew to be the largest that year before leaving Rochester.  She will forever be listed as a male on the official list, unless she turns up somewhere in the future.  Most they get right, some they get wrong.   Wink
