Website Problems Fixed

Monday, August 11th, 2014

The FalconWatch blog database was corrupted beyond repair. Fortunately, it was able to be restored from Saturday night’s backup. This means that everything is back online except for MAK’s Sunday (8/10) Fledge Watch report.

Website Problems August 11, 2014

Monday, August 11th, 2014

Rfalconcam’s web server started experiencing several problems just before midnight. Steps were taken to correct the problems, but they were not entirely successful, resulting in additional problems this morning. Work continues on finding a resolution. In the meantime, all website functionality has been restored with the exception of the FalconWatch blog. Expect the blog to be unavailable for the remainder of the day.

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

Banding will take place this morning at approximately 10 am. There will not be live camera coverage of the actual banding. However, we plan to keep our nest box cameras running and post updates to our Forum, Facebook, and Twitter throughout the event.

Spring Has Sprung and the Rochester Falcon Season Has Begun!

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

March 20, 2014

Although the calendar says it’s officially spring, winter refuses to move aside. But that hasn’t stopped the Rochester Peregrine Falcons, Beauty and Dot.ca, from renewing their bonds and preparing their scrape in the nest box high atop the Times Square Bldg.

Happy New Year to all the Rochester Falcon Fans Around the World!

Monday, January 13th, 2014

2013 was a good year for the Rochester Falcons. Beauty and Dot.ca raised three beautiful eyases. All three fledged successfully. Baron, Rosetta and Voyager have started their life journeys. After they left Rochester, we received a report that Baron had been seen in the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge and not long ago, we reported that Rosetta was seen up in Canada. We will be sure to pass along any information we receive about them.

Pigott, the female at the BS location, is still being seen there.

Mariah & Kaver’s legacy continues. Rhea Mae (and Tiago), Quest (and Kendal), Linn (and Rueben) and Diamante (and Gleig) all had successful nest sites in 2013. We heard that Ihteram and Ananta were seen, but we have not heard how they did. Rhea Mae’s son Stormin, with his mate Haven, also raised young in 2013.

Sadly, we lost Ranger this year. She was Mariah and Cabot-Sirocco’s daughter from 2001. She and her long time mate Hunter had never raised any young. Fly Free Ranger.

Diamante’s daughter Billie (2013) has been seen just north of Rochester, near the lake. She was positively ID’d and has been seen hunting along the lake shore.

The Rochester Falcon Watchers have been reporting that Dot.ca, who normally migrates during the winter months, has remained here in Rochester. He has been frequently seen with both Beauty and Pigott.

Another adult Peregrine Falcon has been seen at nearby Kodak Park. Maybe a winter visitor? At this time, this bird has not been identified.

Very soon the 2014 nesting season will begin. All of us here at the Rochester Falconcam thank all of you for watching the falcons that nest on top of the Times Square building and hope you continue to watch.

A very Happy New Year to you and your families!

ROC the Day Was a Success

Thursday, December 12th, 2013

Thanks to the generosity of our dedicated falcon followers, we raised over $1800 yesterday, including a $500 bonus earned by carrying out our clever plan to donate en masse between midnight and 2 am in order to increase our chances of winning those 2 hourly drawings.

ROC the Day officials will send us a list of donors sometime next week and a full financial statement in February, at which point we will know who to thank individually. Until then, thank you to everyone who donated. Your contributions will be used to fund Rfalconcam operations and improvements throughout 2014.

ROC the Day Starts at Midnight

Tuesday, December 10th, 2013

ROC the Day is only a a few hours away!

Join us tonight at midnight for the start of ROC the Day. Sadly this year there are no bonuses for the most number of ROCstar donors in a 2-hour time period. But that doesn’t meant there aren’t any bonuses to win. Every hour one lucky ROCstar (that’s you!) will be randomly chosen to give an extra $500 bonus to the non-profit of their choice. We are going to try to get that bonus during the first hour, and here is how we plan to do it.

We are asking all of our falcon watching ROCstars to make a donation just after midnight. This will be at a time when there are very few other people making donations. This should give us a numerical advantage when the first random drawing is made at 1 am. There is a good chance that one of you will be chosen, and then you can elect to have Rfalconcam receive the $500 bonus. Also, if you can stay up until after 1 am to make a 2nd donation, one of you might win the 2nd drawing at 2 am. (Please note that you do not have to stay up for the actual drawings. The ROC the Day folks will notify you by email if you are picked.)

So stay up a few extra hours or set your alarm clock for midnight and then make a donation. It doesn’t have to be a big one. In fact, if you make small donations throughout the day tomorrow, you will be eligible for each hourly drawing where you will have a slim but real chance of winning.

Be sure to stay tuned. You can get the latest news on our ROC the Day plans at our Forum or on our Facebook page. You can also follow us on Twitter.

By the way, the link to donate is http://www.roctheday.org/rfalconcam.
