What’s In a Name? New Guy Has a Name! 6/19/25

Thursday, June 19th, 2025

It’s time that our new tiercel has a proper name. He has been doing such an awesome job helping Nova raise Zephyrus, Anders and Denali. No more New Guy!

The Rochester Falcon Watchers submitted names and voted for their favorite. There were so many awesome names to choose from. But, we decided that New Guy would now be called Corazon!

Corazon was submitted by Watcher Dana Mulhern.

“I would love to name him Corazon, which is Spanish for heart. Because of all the love he has shown to Nova and Neander’s boys, and also because of the hearts on his cheeks. ♥️

We will never forget Neander with his white Feather. He will forever be in our heart. Miss you Neander!

But life for our Rochester Peregrine Family must move on and Corazon will hopefully be a part of that for many years to come as Nova’s mate.

Welcome Corazon!!!

New Guy or Step Dad or …? – 6/11/25

Wednesday, June 11th, 2025

I know that many of you have questioned why our new male hasn’t been given a new name yet. The reason is that the Rochester Falcon Watchers wanted to wait for our three boys to successfully fledge. Which has now happened.

NG has done an incredible job helping Nova raise her and Neander’s sons. We couldn’t have asked for a better partner for our Nova. She seems to have accepted him and we’ve witnessed them bonding. Zephyrus, Anders and Denali know him as dad.

For all the hard work the Rochester Falcon Watchers do, they will be given the honor of choosing a name for our new dad.

We’ll let you know when we’ve decided. Stay tuned!

Empty Nest Syndrome – From Eyases to Juvies! 6/8/25

Sunday, June 8th, 2025

All of our young falcons have now fledged. Their first flights were successful! Now the Rochester Falcon Watchers are going to be very busy. We’ll be out looking for them and attempting to ID them to make sure they are all accounted for and remain safe.

Denali fledged early Saturday morning and he’s been flying well. Both Anders and Zephyrus fledged almost at the same time this afternoon.

Earlier this afternoon, Denali returned to the nest box. All three boys spent the afternoon napping and preening on top of the nest box. For now the nest box is empty, but hopefully they’ll return now and then for a visit.

As time allows, we’ll post updates to let you know how they’re doing. Be sure to follow Rfalconcam and the watchers on Bluesky to receive the live watcher reports.

Rfalconcam is on Bluesky

Wednesday, June 4th, 2025

In case you didn’t know, we have started posting Rfalconcam news to Bluesky! It is ad-free and free to use. Have you set up your account yet?

As we approach fledge watching, you may want to follow individual watchers on Bluesky for updates in real time! This is the primary method our on-the-ground watchers will use to communicate with each other.

We have created a Bluesky Starter pack of these watchers’ accounts. Go to https://go.bsky.app/QajAmL4 and select all the watchers or choose individuals you want to follow.

Bluesky does not currently offer direct post notifications. If you want Bluesky notifications of watcher posts we suggest the BlueNotify app. Once you download and log into BlueNotify, click on Edit Notifications and select the accounts from there.

Of course, you are not required to follow the fledge-watch action on Bluesky. As always, all Rfalconcam and watcher posts will cross-post to our main website. You can follow along there on the Rfalconcam forum topic Falcon Watches: Bluesky 2025 https://rfalconcam.com/forum/index.php?topic=19462.0
Or on our streaming chat https://rfalconcam.com/rfc-main/streamView.php

What about X?

While Bluesky is now our primary method for posting fledge-watch news, you will still see posts on X from our main Rfalconcam account while individual watchers have the option to post on X if they wish, but you may miss some posts when things are happening quickly. Dropping X as the primary method is the result of X raising the price of its API, which we use to cross-post to our website. We can no longer justify the expense. Bluesky’s API, on the other hand, is free.

Keep your eyes to the sky!
