Grace Visits and Proud Mariah

I had a nice visit this morning from Grace, who landed on Pride’s rock while I was on the observation deck. Mariah was close by, sitting on the edge of the gorge offering me another rare photo opp. These are some pictures from this morning’s watch.

There was plenty of flying, plus several opportunities for close-up looks at the fledglings this morning. I’ve added an update to my blog with pictures and narrative, which I hope you’ll enjoy.

Ananta Flies the Friendly Skies

This morning, we were treated to some nice flying by our juvies. This album features mostly Ananta flying the gorge, buzzing seagulls, landing on the hook branch, and being visited by a goldfinch. At the end of the album, there’s a few pix of Kaver chasing of a redtail hawk to keep the skies over her territory safe for the juvies.

Fledge Watch: Tom and Ryan Lentz, June 30, 8:00am-9:10am

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

This morning our “official watch” started at 8:00 and when we got there things were all around pretty quiet. All the falcons were accounted for except one juvie (which we later spotted) and even Mariah was asleep. Meanwhile we spotted a groundhog, deer, and wild turkey.

At one point all three of the juvies that we could see took off and Kaver followed to make sure of what they were off to do. Kaver then returned with all four of the juvies behind him, Grace showing off her above average flying ability. They then paired up and showed off some of their new flying skills with some in the air tag and playful flying. After this littlle air show the juvies split back up again and came to rest on their separate places. After all this excitement with the juvies and Kaver, Mariah finally woke up, preened for a little, and then went back to sleep, obviously not too thrilled with the juvie’s fun.

Dana and I stopped out to do a little falcon watching this evening. I only took only a handful of shots tonight, but did manage to get some falcon action. There’s also some other pics of a couple of events happening in the area this weekend in this album

Falcon Watch- Larry O’Heron Friday, June 29 6:30-7:30 am

When I arrived, Paul, Dan S, Jeanne, Carol P and Jim P were already gathered at the corner of Platt and Mill St. It was not ” a dark and stormy night”, since it was a cool morning with bright, blue skies over the “Flour”/”Flower” city, as Rochester is sometimes known. They brought me up to speed which essentially meant a rather slow morning with some talon tag among the girls. Dan had earlier sighted all four juvies, so it was “All Quiet on the Western Front”.

I got outside three times on Thursday for brief watches. Here’s a review of the day’s activity.

Fledge Watch: Kathy Alianell Thursday June 28 10-1:00pm

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

My watch began at 10am and the skies over Kodak tower were dark and threatening rain. I took my position at the corner of Bru and spotted all of our GALS and 1 adult about the Kodak complex. I was joined by Paul who engaged me in a lively conversation of the wildlife of High Falls and the correlation to us lowly humans who are resigned to simply watch in awe of Nature’s wonder.

There were numerous flights between the stacks and tower with Mariah doing gentle figure eights in front of the tower showing her girls the joy of the breeze as the clouds broke to a blue sky with wispy clouds.

Falcon Watch- Larry O’Heron- Thursday, June 28 6:30-7:30am

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Watchers included Kaye, Sid, Dawn, Carol P, Jeanne, Dan, Kathy G and Joyce.

We had two excellent food transfers this morning. One time was from Mariah and the second was from Kaver.

The juvies are well aware that a parent is inbound. We hear them begin kakking and then they take to the air. It becomes very confusing with all the juvies going to and fro’. But it does bring them out into the open.
