Dana and I stopped out to do a little falcon watching this evening. I only took only a handful of shots tonight, but did manage to get some falcon action. There’s also some other pics of a couple of events happening in the area this weekend in this album…

We hope everyone is enjoying reading the exciting dispatches from our on-scene fledge watchers! When you’re reviewing the latest reports, take some time to look through the list of recent entries. Some reports are submitted several hours or even a day after the watcher’s shift has taken place. We publish them in reverse chronological order based on the time and date of the Fledge Watch, so the most recently received reports may not appear at the top of the list. Don’t miss out on the action– take a moment to review the entries further down the list!
We’ll be introducing a new feature very soon. Every couple of days we’ll be showcase an exclusive picture or video clip on the Rochester Falconcam’s home page. You’ll be able to download high-resolution images and watch video clips recorded by our Fledge Watchers as Ananta, Linn, Sacajawea and Grace continue to hone their flying and hunting skills. We’ll store all the images and clips on our Imprints Gallery, where you’ll be able to post your thoughts. Look for the first gallery feature soon!

When I arrived, Paul, Dan S, Jeanne, Carol P and Jim P were already gathered at the corner of Platt and Mill St. It was not ” a dark and stormy night”, since it was a cool morning with bright, blue skies over the “Flour”/”Flower” city, as Rochester is sometimes known. They brought me up to speed which essentially meant a rather slow morning with some talon tag among the girls. Dan had earlier sighted all four juvies, so it was “All Quiet on the Western Front”.

My watch began at 10am and the skies over Kodak tower were dark and threatening rain. I took my position at the corner of Bru and spotted all of our GALS and 1 adult about the Kodak complex. I was joined by Paul who engaged me in a lively conversation of the wildlife of High Falls and the correlation to us lowly humans who are resigned to simply watch in awe of Nature’s wonder.
There were numerous flights between the stacks and tower with Mariah doing gentle figure eights in front of the tower showing her girls the joy of the breeze as the clouds broke to a blue sky with wispy clouds.

Watchers included Kaye, Sid, Dawn, Carol P, Jeanne, Dan, Kathy G and Joyce.
We had two excellent food transfers this morning. One time was from Mariah and the second was from Kaver.
The juvies are well aware that a parent is inbound. We hear them begin kakking and then they take to the air. It becomes very confusing with all the juvies going to and fro’. But it does bring them out into the open.

It was a hot and very windy night…and I knew there would be a change in the weather soon, as I struggled with a sinus headache. At first glance, there was a very quiet visitor lot and lots of parking. I was nervous that I would be the lone watcher but of course not! This Rochester crowd is way too dedicated and I located Susan, Joyce and Marianne on the sidewalk walking towards the bridge. Read the rest of this entry »

Just wanted to share some pictures that I took of Mariah retrieving a pigeon that dropped after an unsuccessful food exchange last evening. It was late evening and the lighting wasn’t that great for taking photos, but the series of shots is worth viewing. Enjoy!

As I was driving East on I490 a little before noon for my very first Fledge Watch, I had quite a thrill when I noticed a car speeding past on my right with a license plate that read “Shakymon!” I didn’Â’t want to risk a speeding ticket trying to keep up, but when I parked at High Falls and walked onto the pedestrian bridge, there he was! After spending hours
everyday for weeks on his website, I was very excited to meet him!
We didnÂ’’t see any activity over the gorge or around the smokestacks (except for a mylar balloon floating across the gorge) so Shaky, Carol P. and I walked down Mill St. behind the red Rochester Plumbing Supply building. From that vantage point, Read the rest of this entry »
