Morning Fledge Watch 8-13-15
Thursday, August 13th, 2015By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
It was back to sunny blue skies this morning with a starting temperature of 53 (F) 12 (C)
There were no falcons at Seneca Towers when I left today and I was beginning to wonder if they all went to a falcon convention as I wasn’t finding any downtown either. Finally, around 6:40am I spotted Dot.ca (DC) on the northeast cube of the Frontier Communications tower (FCT) from the Andrews St. bridge (ASB). I went over to the City Hall parking lot but DC had his back to me as he was finishing up eating. I decided to go down on Fitzhugh St. in front of the Sister Cities parking garage for a better angle as I wasn’t quite sure who it was yet. DC started feaking and as I was about to tweet it out, Shaky reported a falcon there as he was checking with pan cam.
DC flew southeast a couple minutes later. I went to the Court St. bridge on my way to check the east side and noticed a falcon flying above Xerox for a few seconds and then it disappeared as I reached for my camera. About an hour later, Larry reported from Winthrop St. that he could see no falcons on the east side. At about the same time I found DC on the top I beam south corner of OCSR from the Broad St. bridge (BSB). I went down to the hole where Bank Place meets Aqueduct St. for a closer look and suddenly I heard a juvie whining. I looked up to see Cadence land on the heel of Mercury.
A minute later I caught DC just as he flew off heading northwest and as I looked back to Mercury Cadence took off right after him whining the whole way.
I went to the Andrews St. bridge and spotted a falcon on the bottom arm of FCT so I drove over to the City Hall parking lot where I found Beauty on the arm and DC on the beam between the northeast and southeast cubes with his back to me. Cadence came flying in noisily screaming at mom and dad and landed below the platform near DC. She too, had her back to me.
It was another short stay for Cadence as she took off after the Beautyful one a couple minutes later as mom flew east just before 8am. I left to look for them but never saw them again. I checked back on FCT for DC and found him to be still there preening.
That about wraps it up for today’s watch-I checked the High Falls gorge unsuccessfully on my way out of downtown. With no falcon sightings at Seneca Towers I ended my watch at 9am. We have at least one juvie, Cadence still around to make us smile! 🙂
