More gloomy weather with overcast conditions but mild temperature of  40 (F) 4 (C)

I had no falcons at Seneca Towers to greet me this morning as I started my watch. When I got downtown, it wasn’t until I checked the east side of the river that I found Beauty on a northeast corner of Legacy Tower eating. I was parked on Elm St. and quite soon after arriving she finished eating and flew off to the northwest.

She had a pretty full crop on her. As I was driving onto the Broad St. bridge I spotted her on the top I-beam southeast side of OCSR. I went to the Radisson Hotel by Main St. to watch her and check the elevator shaft for Dot.ca (DC).

img_0006-beauty1img_0008-beautyimg_0009-beauty

The Beautyful one turned her back to me after doing some cleaning up from her meal so I set out to look for DC again. No luck finding him today again. I suspect he may be going over to the Brighton site or perhaps he has migrated. I ended up on Bank Place where it meets Aqueduct St. in the hole.

Beauty was looking southeast predominately so it made me wonder if she could see DC somewhere over there. Unfortunately, I had to leave for an appointment and couldn’t look for him anymore ending my watch at 8:30am.

Later, as I was on my way home to Seneca Towers and crossing the Veteran’s Memorial bridge a falcon flew up from below the bridge just above the railing to my right not more than 10 feet away then back down into the gorge. You can be sure that put a smile on this watchers face! 🙂

Another dismal day in Rochester with scattered showers and overcast skies and a temperature of  38 (F) 3 (C)

Parked at the north end of Seneca Towers (ST) again, when I looked up I found Seth in his spot on the north window ledge and Billie on the northwest corner with her back to me.

img_0002-billieimg_0003-seth2img_0004-bs<Click

I set out for East Ridge Rd. for a better look and found Seth had flown over to join Billie-he was on the railing above her. Seth soon flew off at 7:31am as Billie watched him and then she followed as they went toward the south end of ST.

img_0005-bsseth-takes-offimg_0009-billie

I spotted them on the tall antenna at the south end of the building as I drove south on St. Paul St. I made a U-turn to check them out as Seth was on the tippy top and she was below him on her favorite spot on that particular antenna.

img_0010-bsimg_0013-sethimg_0015-billie

Seth looked down at his girl a couple times then took off while I was watching Billie. She then took off and they disappeared to the northwest together.

I left for downtown at that point and when I pulled over on the Andrews St. bridge I spotted Dot.ca (DC) over on the southeast wing ring at the very top of Times Square at 7:52am.

img_0020-dc1

I drove to Aqueduct St. in the hole to observe him but he was gone when I got there. Instead, I found Beauty on the top I-beam southeast side of OCSR near the west corner.

img_0021-beauty

From there I left to check the elevator shaft from the Radisson Hotel by Main St. DC wasn’t up there and I had Beauty’s back to me so I moved on.

img_0026-beauty

As I stopped on Bragdon St. at the other end of the Radisson I saw DC fly from the green strip on the Ellwanger & Barry building. He headed north then doubled back heading south then I lost sight of him behind Crossroads and never found him again.  I returned to the hole and shared space with the Beautyful one for a few more minutes as it started raining.

I left downtown around 8:30am and was unsuccessful in finding any falcons at the Medley Centre or Seneca Towers. I ended my watch at 9:10am smiling from seeing our 4 resident Peregrine Falcons! 🙂

A very dark, cloudy morning in Rochester but warm for December with a temperature of  47 (F) 8 (C)

I was parked at the north end of my parking lot at Seneca Towers (ST)-as I got to my car and looked up I just caught Billie flying around the northwest corner and head south along the west side and out of sight. Then I spotted Seth in his usual spot on the north window ledge.

img_0003-seth1

I promptly drove out to Seth Green Dr. where I round Billie on the tall antenna at the south end of ST. She was in hunt mode.

img_0004-billie-from-seth-green-drimg_0005-billieimg_0006-from-seth-green-dr

I was parked further back than usual as my regular spot was taken so I decided to go out on St. Paul St. for closer viewing. Billie was watching sparrows below her as she stand perched on a very small surface-it always amazes me what little things they can fit those big yellow feet (BYF) on.

img_0008-billieimg_0010-billieimg_0015-from-st-paul-st

At 7:39am Billie pooped then flew west out of my field of vision. I headed south to downtown.

Landing on the Andrews St. bridge just before 8am I could see Beauty on the northeast corner of Crossroads eating. I went over to State St. to get closer to her.

img_0029-beautyimg_0031-beautyimg_0034-beauty-moving-preyimg_0035-beauty

For the most part the Beautyful one had her back to me with some profile positions. I left her to look for Dot.ca (DC) but couldn’t find him. He’s been elusive the last few days-this is the second time this week I didn’t see him. Anyway, I ended up on Bragdon Place across the river from Beauty after checking the OCSR elevator shaft. She soon finished eating, did some clean up then stood on the corner perched and facing me.

Beauty turned around to poop then perched a few more minutes before flying off to the Frontier Communications tower at 8:43am. I watched as she landed on the southeast cube.

img_0042-beautyimg_0043-beauty-poopsimg_0047-full-crop-on-beautyimg_0050-beauty-off-and-on-her-way-to-fct

It was a slow leisurely flight in which she flapped her wings the whole way. I went over to Allen St. by the City Hall parking lot for a quick shot of her before leaving downtown.

img_0054-beauty-on-fct

I checked the Medley Centre, St. Ann’s Home and Seneca Towers but never saw another falcon-I ended my watch at 9:30am. Sadly, it was reported that Beauty’s mom, Dorothy is no longer at the Cathedral of Learning nest site in Pittsburgh and that another female named Hope has been seen bonding with E2 a number of times. Dorothy is almost 17 years old and has done her part in adding to the Peregrine population-she will be missed. I always smile when I think of her as she gave us Beauty! 🙂

Morning Falcon Watch 12-1-15

A dark overcast morning with a temperature of  41 (F) 5 (C)

As I got parked on Seth Green Dr. I spotted Seth on the southwest corner below the railing at Seneca Towers and Billie on the west side railing at the other end of the building as I started my watch.

img_0003-sethimg_0004-billie

Seth flew off soon after I arrived  while Billie remained. I drove over to East Ridge Rd. to take a look and found Seth in his spot on the north window ledge.

img_0010-seth

I left for downtown at that time and as I arrived just before 8am on the Andrews St. bridge I found Beauty on the top I-beam of OCSR near the west corner.

img_0012-beauty-from-asb

I went over to State St. close to Church St. to watch the Beautyful one for a while. She had her back to me the whole time looking over her shoulders here and there.

img_0015-beauty-from-state-and-church-stimg_0016-beauty-near-west-corner

I left her to look for Dot.ca (DC) then returned after failing to do so. I was determined to find him since I didn’t see him yesterday. After a check on Beauty I took another trip around town and this time I found DC in the OCSR elevator shaft from Bragdon Place at 8:34am. The only way I was able to distinguish it was him is that his tail was hanging down in front of the lighter colored cement below the south ledge.

img_0018-the-tail-gave-him-away

DC came out farther and turned momentarily before turning his back to me again.

img_0020-dc

Satisfied that I had found him, I left downtown checking to see that Beauty was still on OCSR before heading to the Medley Centre. While checking the north side parking lot at 9am, I found a falcon on a light pole and I got all excited that it was Big Frank as she hasn’t been seen since November 10th. She showed her left leg band showing black/green, 77/AX and that’s when I knew I was looking at Buffalo Billie.

img_0024-billie-at-mcimg_0027-billieimg_0028-buffalo-billie

She took off a couple minutes later heading southwest and didn’t come back.

img_0029-there-she-goes

I went home to Seneca Towers thinking Billie had gone there but I found Seth instead. He was on the west side railing near the northwest corner.

img_0033-seth

I ended my watch at 9:30am with a smile after seeing 4 of our Rochester Peregrine Falcons! 🙂
