Eyes to the Skies

Morning watch 9-11-12

September 11th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon watcher MAK

When I stepped out of the house this morning I wondered if the sweater, fleece pullover and gloves were going to keep me warm enough but once I got to walking that question was answered. My outdoor thermometer said 49 degrees fahrenhiet, some 30-40 degrees cooler than what we’ve been seeing around here. Once I got downtown and the sun came up it turned out to be a beautiful morning with sunny blue skies much like 9-11-01. Let’s not EVER forget that day!

So it took me about 7 minutes from stepping off the bus to finding my first falcon. From the Broad St. bridge(BSB) I could see a pefa on the Frontier Communications Tower(FCT) on the 2nd arm tucked in close to the tower. I started my trek over to City Hall to ID it with the thought in the back of my mind that I might get over there and it would be gone. I stopped on State St. as I always do in front of the Rochester Plaza Hotel where the tower comes into view from behind buildings to see that it was gone from the arm and now there was a falcon on the platform railing. It had a dark front and so I got a little excited thinking that it could be Orion.

img_1132-beauty-on-fct1

After getting by the City Hall building that blocks my view of the tower as I walk down Church St. I could see that my instincts were correct-no falcon. As I was checking the rest of the tower and contemplating going up on the Sister Cities Garage I got a text from Donna saying Beauty was at the nest box. So off I went to the Times Square building(TSB).  Once there I found Dot.Ca(DC) under the northeast wing looking very white in the bright morning sun.

img_1134-pretty-boy-dc

I had to go to Falcon Watcher Central to be able to see Beauty up at the nest box. At first I could see one whole side of her but then she moved in closer to the nest box.

img_1135-beauty

Then I couldn’t see DC anymore so I walked up to the middle of the BSB to see if he had just moved back on the ledge. He was gone as far as I could tell and I decided to go down by the front entrance of the Blue Cross Arena(BCA) to watch the Beautyful one at closer range.

img_1146-b

Just before 9:00am Beauty left the nest box area so once again I went up to the BSB to have a look around. I found DC on the top ibeam of OCSR at the south corner(one of his favorite spots).

img_1187-dc

While I was up on the bridge I checked out the river residents and took some pics. When I was done I noticed a bump on the west corner 2nd ibeam  of OCSR. Beauty had joined the mix so I left the bridge to go to Aqueduct Park for a closer encounter with our resident Peregrine pair.

45 minutes later DC left and I couldn’t see Beauty anymore so I decided to call it a watch. I really was hoping Orion would come for a visit but I do believe he has started the wandering stage of his young life. I have no doubt that he will beat the odds and have a long successful life. I’m grateful for the time spent with him and there’s always video of him to look at when I/we need a fix. Keep smiling everyone! 🙂

Falcon Watch (6:00 to 8:00 pm) – Beauty and Dot.ca Together, No Orion Seen for 2nd Day – 9/10/12

September 10th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.

Well, for two days now, no Watchers have seen or heard young Orion.  We were talking about the possibilities tonight on Watch. Usually our young juvies are well on their way by now, but this year was different.  Orion was a very late hatch and an only child.  Recently, we have seen him hunt on his own, and quite successfully.  I was there to witness his hunt and I was very impressed with his skills.  Orion has impressed me a lot over the last few weeks.  Because he was the only fledgling this year, he got the undivided attention of both Beauty and Dot.ca.  Of course we can’t be sure that he won’t return for a visit.  I truly hope he does!  He has been a joy to watch.

Tonight I arrived downtown around 6:00 pm.  When I arrived on Broad St., I was happy to see two falcons, side-by-side, on the OCSR.  I drove down to Aqueduct St to get a closer look.  I was hoping that one might be Orion, but it was two adults.  Beauty and Dot.ca were on the top IBeam a few feet apart.

Beauty (left) & Dot.ca (right) on OCSR - 9/10/12Beauty & Dot.ca on the top IBeam of OCSR South Side - 9/10/12Beauty & Dot.ca on the top IBeam of OCSR South Side - 9/10/12Beauty & Dot.ca on the top IBeam of OCSR South Side - 9/10/12

They seemed to be content and they were very quiet and preening.  They showed no indication at all that they were worried about the missing Orion.  In the past, if a juvie was down, the adults would usually let us know, by their behavior, where the young falcon was.  We have many examples of this from the Mariah and Kaver years, including when Rhea Mae fell down the stack on her first flight.  Mariah sat on the catwalk above where we found Rhea Mae deep below ground level at the bottom of the stack.  In fact, the whole family moved out there keeping watch over her.  We are all watching Beauty and Dot.ca’s behavior.   So far they have been very calm.

There is a whole team of Rochester Falcon Watchers downtown keeping an eye out for any sightings of Orion and we will report if we see him.

If Orion has left us to start his journey, I wish him safe travels, fair winds and successful hunting along his way.  🙂  I hope to see him in the future with a mate and family of his own.  This is my hope for all of our young falcons.  <3

Here is a link to a Youtube video I took of Dot.ca this evening.  Dot.ca was showing us who Orion got his running abilities from.  We watched amused as he ran back and forth across the Ibeam.  He’s also got the head movement thing going.  lol  At the end, Dot.ca takes off and flies directly over us.  I was able to keep him on camera for a few seconds before he blasted over us, stooping to the south.  I’m actually shocked I got any of his flight.  I don’t know if you’ve heard, but these birds are really fast!  hahaha!  Enjoy!

Morning watch 9-10-12

September 10th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK

Upon turning the corner at Main and Exchange Blvd. I noticed a falcon under the northeast wing eating. It looked very dark to me and after taking a couple pics to ID it I reported it was Orion. I apologize for getting peoples’  hopes up by mistakenly thinking it was him when in fact it was Beauty. Now normally I would be ecstatic to see the Beautyful one but after not seeing Orion since Saturday I was a bit let down. Our bright, beautiful baby boy may have moved on to his new life and if that’s the case I wish him the best on his journey and hope to see him again someday! It was a great ride having Orion to watch this summer and I miss him already!!! <3

So Beauty was having her breakfast on the Times Square building(TSB) and when she was finished she stashed the rest at the back of the ledge.

img_1038-beautyful img_1043-b

She cleaned herself up and flew off  over Thomson Reuters only to return to the TSB under the southeast wing.

img_1051-beautyful img_1052-beauty-taking-off

Just before 8:00am DebbieH stopped by for a few minutes on her way to work as Beauty had turned her back to us.  A few minutes later she flew off to the north and that was my cue to walk over to City Hall to see if she went to the Frontier Communications tower(FCT). Before I got there Shaky tweeted that there was a falcon under the platform so when I arrived I looked and sure enough Beauty was up there hiding quite well!

img_1075-b-been-picking-up-o-habits

Obviously she has picked up Orions’ head tilting habits! She moved deeper in the metal maze where I couldn’t see her so I went up to the top of the Sister Cities Garage for a better view. I found her eventually with her back to me after she moved  and 10 minutes later Dot.Ca(DC) flew in from the south right over my head and came to rest on the top arm of the FCT on the northeast side.

img_1081-b-hiding-on-me img_1087-dc

Things were quiet for about 45 minutes so I took some pics to show the view up there and to share the great fall clouds that were peppering our Rochester skies this morning. DC flew off fast to the southeast with Beauty doing the same right after him. I came down from the garage and started to walk to the TSB area when I got a text from Debbie saying there was a falcon under the southeast wing and a text from Donna said that Beauty was at the nest box. I love my remote watchers who make my watching life easier-Thanks guys!

img_1105-dc

I settled in on the BSB and after a while Dana and Joyce joined me. Joyce had to leave after a few minutes to give Brian a lift somewhere and after she left DC flew off  TSB vanishing behind the Thomson Reuters building.

img_1111-and-hes-off1

After checking the cams on her phone to see that  Beauty had also left the nest box, Dana and I walked to the other end of the bridge for a better view but didn’t see any falcons anywhere. So the search was on and after checking everywhere downtown with no sightings we rode over to Brighton to find Pigott who also was nowhere to be found. We returned to downtown and found Beauty on the FCT at about 1:00. She flew off 15 minutes later and DC came in seconds after she left to land on the FCT. He was hard to find at first but he came out into the open after a few minutes where we could see him. Dana and I decided to call it a watch wishing Orion would show up before we left but that wasn’t the case. Still, we left downtown smiling for having seen Beauty and DC on a chilly, sunny late summer day! 🙂

Happy Birthday to Brigetta(sorry if I got your name wrong-please comment and correct me) who came down to the Broad St. bridge today with her friend. She wanted to see the falcons for her b-day! Sorry you didn’t see any but it was nice to meet you. 🙂

Morning watch 9-9-12

September 9th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK

It was a chilly start this morning but later when the sun was able to peek through the clouds it wasn’t so bad. Joyce was out before me this morning and had a falcon on the southeast corner of the Times Square building(TSB) when I was on my bus to downtown. Still dark out when I walked by the TSB I couldn’t see the falcon so I continued on to the Broad St. bridge to try my luck. I couldn’t see anything up there either. Joyce reported the pefa flew off and she saw 2 flying before finding them on the Frontier Communications tower(FCT). Dana joined me on the BSB as Joyce tweeted she could hear echupping on Widows Walk(WW).

I decided to take a walk to the east side and check HSBC,Xerox,Midtown and Bausch&Lomb. Nothing over there but Dana tweeted that Beauty was at the nest box so I made my way back over to the bridge. On my way over Carol tweeted that  Beauty had left the nest box and when I reached Broad and South Ave. I spotted the Beautyful one on the northeast corner of the Crossroads building.

img_0996-beauty-taken-from-broad-st-bridge

Jeanne and Larry were checking out the herons down in the river. Dana was on the north side of the BSB getting into position to see Beauty on Crossroads. I was distracted by the beautiful changing skies this morning, billowing puffy clouds and shades of orange and  pink colored the sky.

img_0998-love-this Click the pic

Carol was over at FCT  having a bit of trouble figuring out who she was seeing on the tower. I can totally relate to that! lol Joyce and Dana were out searching for falcons which left Jeanne and I on the bridge alone since Larry had left as well. A watcher named Judy came by whom Jeanne had met before but it was my first time so Jeanne introduced us. When she heard there were falcons at FCT she left to go see. I noticed she had a very nice camera as she pulled away in her Jaguar with the convertible top down. SWEET! Jeanne and I chatted and checked the river and sky just waiting for the birds to come to us. Last night while on a short evening watch I met Laura and her husband Mike and their children Joe and Katie. Debra and her son Sam were there as well. Nice to meet all these new people. Back to today- I noticed a man with a BIG camoflage  lens setting up a tripod on the upper landing of the Blue Cross Arena(BCA) north side. As it turns out he is Ricardo from Chile who came to see Orion. It was all quite peaceful and nice  but Jeanne and I didn’t want to fall asleep so we took a ride over to FCT! LOL

When we got over there Judy was watching from in front of City Hall a few cars up from us on the street and Carol was in the parking lot out of view so she never saw Judy. I looked up and saw Dot.Ca(DC) on the platform railing east side. He was fidgety and suddenly just as I got my camera ready he pooped(usually a precursor to take off) and then he took off toward TSB.

img_0999-poop-shot just-before-take-off

Dana was parked up by Widows Walk on Fitzhugh and so Jeanne and I parked behind her. DC had landed near the northeast corner of the WW railing. And he moved on soon after we got there.

img_1002-dc

Jeanne and I went back to FCT where Jeanne saw a falcon stoop off the top arm to the west side out of sight. We met up with Carol in the City Hall parking lot where we decided to take a ride over by Kodak Office to take a look see. I’m not sure where Carol took off to. No luck over at KO so Jeanne and I returned to the BSB and found Larry there. Beauty was at the nest box and DC went to the jail tower to eat a tiny morsel of food.

img_1009-sleeping-beauty img_1013-dc-eating-a-small-morsel Click pics for full version

Jeanne had to be leaving and asked if I’d like a ride home or if I was staying. I accepted the ride home as my head was pounding. I was disappointed to not have seen our beautiful boy Orion but happy enough to have seen his parents which sent me home with a smile on my face! 🙂

Falcon Watch (Morning) – Beauty & Orion Share a Meal on the Rundel Library – Video of Orion’s Flight Carrying Food – 9/8/12

September 8th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.

I joined Kathy O, Joyce and MAK on the Broad Street Bridge for an early morning Falcon Watch this morning.  It was so much fun watching mom and son interact with each other.  Beauty ate her share before bringing it to Orion to eat what he wanted.  He was more than happy to accept.

This video has first Beauty and then Orion vocalizing.  Beauty is on the NW corner watching over her young son, while he munches on the remainder of the Pigeon his mom provided him.  First Beauty takes off, then Orion drags the remains to the corner and then he takes off carrying the leftovers to the SW corner of the Thompson Reuters bldg.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHbnidnaj4o&feature=youtu.be

We did end up seeing Dot.ca also.  He was with Orion on the jail.  He was also seen out at the BS location this morning hanging out with Pigott.

Here are a few more pics from our morning Watch.

By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK

I caught the 5:58am bus downtown this morning landing downtown while it was still dark out so I couldn’t see any falcons at first but that changed at first light. I was looking down in the river from the north sidewalk of the Broad St. bridge(BSB) where I spotted a raccoon on the rocks in the middle of  it! I took a pic but it was too dark to tell what it was.  I then put my binocs up to Mercury where I spotted Orion on the base.

img_0899-o-on-mercury Click the pics for full version

It was starting to lighten up and it also started to rain as KathyO pulled up followed by Joyce. I jumped in the car with Kathy as she was the closest to me to escape the brief downpour. After the rain stopped we all got out and watched Orion fly over to the Rundell Library to join his mama, Beauty who was there on the northwest corner with breakfast. And yes he was singing quite loudly!

img_0920-bo Click it to see B&O

Beauty was plucking and eating while Orion waited patiently to her right a few feet down farther on the ledge. We could see the yellow jacket bees fluttering around both their heads. They’ve been a real nuisance for the past month. Down below in the river Kathy brought my attention to 2 juvie Black-crowned Herons and 1 Great Blue that was fishing near them. CarolP joined the watch as we had such a nice treat of being so close to this mother and son encounter. Both Beauty and Orion looked at us as we watched them.

img_0953-beauty Beauty  img_0938-hey-there-big-boy Orion

Orion was looking up,down and all around as he waited for mom to give up her meal to him. He makes my neck hurt just watching how he jerks his head around and tips it upside down!

img_0949-what-a-goofball

Beauty did eventually bring the food closer and let him get his share then she flew out over the river and returned to the northwest corner to stand guard while Orion ate. The Beautyful one started to sing – obviously Orion has had some musical influence on her! lol

img_0969-beauty-sings img_0973-b

Beauty flew off to the Times Square building coming to rest under the northeast wing. Shortly afterwards Orion flew off the library with his breakfast and landed on the southwest corner of the Thomson Reuters building. He didn’t stay long and left the tasty treat on the roof as he flew south. Beauty flew over to Widows Walk and was perched on the northeast corner below the railing.

img_0975-beauty

Orion and Dot.Ca ended up on the jail tower tho we couldn’t agree on which one was on the 2nd arm and which one was in the middle framework we did agree they were both up there. It can be very difficult to ID them on the jail tower cuz you can’t get real close. Orion stooped off the top arm at one point but came up empty taloned.

img_0979-o-dives-off-jail-tower

Kathy and I headed back to the BSB area after leaving Cornhill where we were watching dad and son on the jail tower. As we passed the Blue Cross Arena a line was forming for tickets to the Bruce Springsteen concert who will be here in Rochester on October 30. Beauty left the Widows Walk and it started raining again so Kathy and I decided to end our watch and go home.  A very decent watch it was as we saw all 3 downtown Rochester Peregrine Falcons up close and personal which put smiles on all our faces! 🙂

Falcon Watch (Evening) – B&DC on the Kodak Tower & Orion and DC do a Food Exchange! Big Storm Approaches!- 9/7/12

September 7th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.

Not much time to work on my report tonight, but I did want to give you the highlights of what turned out to be a very nice evening Watch.

Watchers this evening: Joyce, Dan S, Brian, Kathy O and Carol P.

When I first got downtown, both Beauty and Dot.ca were on the Kodak Tower.  Beauty was on the SE corner of the launchpad and Dot.ca was on the east side ledge.  Both were preening and there was no vocalizing from either.  Joyce arrived and stayed on the south side of the tower, while I was sitting on the east side.  We figured that would give one of us a better chance to see where they went if they took off.  and they did!  First Beauty and then Dot.ca took off, both heading south.

Joyce and I got caught in rush hour traffic, which is never really that bad here in Rochester, but it really slowed us down.  Joyce drove over to the Frontier Communication Tower (FCT) where Beauty was on the top arm.  I continued to the Broad St Bridge where I found Dot.ca on the very top of the Jail Communication Tower.  It wasn’t very long before he took off and flew to the south, way out.  Was he visiting with Pigott?

I decided to check out the downtown area, hoping to find Orion.  No luck.  I parked again on the BSB and found a falcon on the jail communication tower, 2nd arm down.  I’m pretty sure it was DC again.  Beauty remained on the FCT where Joyce kept Watch.  So where was Orion?

Dan and then Brian arrived. Just after they arrived, both B&DC took off to parts unknown.  Joyce and then Kathy O joined the BSB Watch.  There were lots and lots of people walking through.  One lady told me it was for a Barry Manilow concert.  Half the BSB (north side) has no parking signs over the meters.  Something to do with an event happening at the convention center this weekend.

While we were on the bridge watching a Great Blue Heron stalk a juvenile Black-capped Night Heron, a storm was moving in from the south.  Really black, ominous clouds with thunder and lightning.  It was pretty intense.  I was trying to get pictures of the lightning but that wasn’t happening.  lol

Just as I was video taping a short snippet of the storm, Brian yelled “Look up!  Look up!” and we did, just in time to see two falcons over Xerox.  One was much larger than the other one.  Beauty stooped behind the old Midtown Plaza while Orion stayed close to the Xerox Bldg.  Then out of nowhere, here comes Dot.ca.  He flies towards Orion with a small package of food held in one talon.  DC and O fly together, then apart, then together.  Orion is screaming for his dinner, he is so loud, we can hear him, and DC is not making it too easy on his kid.  He plays a little keep away with him until finally, Orion flies up to him, flips and grabs the offered food.  DC then veers off back towards downtown and Orion carries his dinner over the river, heading west towards the OCSR.  He then veers off and decides to go to the Times Square Bldg (TSB).  Orion landed on the base of the SE wing where he tucked in and enjoyed his evening meal.  We’re pretty sure it was a starling, based on size and color.

Well that was nice!  Seeing Beauty, DC and Orion just before it started to rain was great!  As it started to rain harder, we all said our goodbyes and jumped into our cars.  We left Orion to his well deserved dinner.

It was another beautiful evening of Watching our Falcons and watching a perfect food exchange between Dot.ca and Orion was just another reason to keep our eyes to the sky and to keep coming back!

Tomorrow is supposed to be a crummy day, with rain on and off and cooler temps.  But, I plan on getting down there early if it’s not too bad.  Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Quickie morning watch 9-7-12

September 7th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK

I had to help a friend this morning with something so I didn’t do my usual early morning watch. I landed at City Hall around 10:30am, it took me a bit to find a falcon. At first I thought it was Beauty cuz I could see only its back and there was a bit of dark on white on the side. After it turned and showed its  front I knew it was Dot.Ca.

img_0886-sleepy-dc img_0887-dc img_0892-dc

I made my way around to every side of the tower checking from different angles but could not see any other falcons. I concluded that it was moms turn with Orion and that DC was by himself up there.

img_0895-dc img_0896-dc img_0897-dc

I left Mr. DC and headed toward the Times Square area to have a look see. I walked down by the river behind OCSR to check the north side as Beauty likes to nap there in the afternoon to get in the shade. Nothing there so I went up to the Main St. bridge which is near my bus stop. I had left the house with only my binocs and camera so I had no bus schedule with me and wanted to be close by as I had to leave soon to help my aunt with a few things. There were no bumps anywhere that I could see so I left downtown at 12:20pm when my bus came ending my short watch. Having seen DC I was satisfied and smiling as I headed out of our fair city! 🙂

Falcon Watch (7 to 8:30 pm) – No Orion this Evening, But We Did Have a Guest Tweeter! – 9/6/12

September 6th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.

I arrived downtown close to 7:00 pm.  I knew I didn’t have long before it got dark, but I really wanted to see “our” falcons.  Just as I was entering the downtown area, I received a tweet.  It was from Lou aka Louigi!  🙂  He and Dana were on the Broad St Bridge (BSB) and they had two adult falcons, Dot.ca on the very top of the jail communication tower eating and Beauty at the base of the SE wing of the Times Square Bldg (TSB).  After checking the Frontier Communication Tower (FCT), I joined them on the BSB.  We were soon joined by Jeanne, Joyce and Kathy O.  It wasn’t long before D.C. was no longer on the FCT.  Now where did he go?  We had no clue.  We spread out and searched but had no luck finding him.  Beauty remained on the TSB with her back to us.  It was really hard to see her up there.  On her way in, Kathy O had checked the surrounding area, but was unable to find Orion.

Our Guest Tweeter Lou continued to tweet out what we were seeing during the evening watch.

While we waited, hoping that Orion would return to his nightly roost, we were happy to see that the neighborhood birds were on a health kick.

Last night Orion came in around 8:10 pm.  Tonight by 8:30 pm, he did not make an appearance, unless he was up there and we just couldn’t see him.  It was a beautiful evening and I was happy to see Beauty and Dot.ca and my fellow Watchers, but I had hoped to see Orion too.  Thankfully the weekend is nearly here.  I do love getting out early to watch the morning activity of the Rochester Falcons.  Something to definitely keep my eyes to the sky for.   🙂

When we left at approximately 8:30 pm, Beauty remained up on the base of the SE wing of the TSB.  She had been there the whole time we were on watch this evening.  Dot.ca snuck off after enjoying his dinner on top of the jail tower.  We did not see Orion this evening at all.  I’ll definitely be back tomorrow and I truly hope to see all three of our Rochester Falcons.

Here are some other pics from this evening.

Morning watch 9-6-12

September 6th, 2012

By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK

This morning when I arrived on the Broad St. Bridge(BSB) Dan was by himself and when I asked what the morning scoop was he told me that Orion had flown thru earlier. Apparently Orion,as Dan put it was” tearing up the turf ” this morning going after everything in his flight path up river. LarryO stopped for a brief time before leaving for work. Then Dans’ daughter Katrina came by to see her dad for a few minutes before going to her job in the Bausch&Lomb building. Well after an hour into my watch having not seen a falcon I decided to try my luck and see if Beauty was on HSBC. I made the trek to the east side and I wasn’t disappointed for she was there on the north side of HSBC.

img_0786-beauty-on-hsbc

I shared space with my favorite Peregrine for about 5 minutes when she took off and flew straight down Broad St. toward the river and the Times Square area. Off I went after her and found the Beautyful one  under the northeast wing of the Times Square building(TSB). I first spotted her up there from the intersection of Clinton and Broad St. then I walked down to below the TSB to get up close and personal. She totally checked me out!

img_0798-hello-beautyful

20 minutes later I heard the familiar sound of Orions’ voice as Beauty flew off with him to the east where I lost them behind the Phillipone building.

img_0802-beauty Be sure to click on the pics for the full version

So I went up to the BSB and found Beauty on the base of Mercury just as Orion flew up to her she ducked out the back side and then they both vanished behind the Thomson Reuters building.

img_0804-orion-flies-up-to-mercury Orion

Sheesh I was starting to get a complex with them leaving me- like they didn’t want me to see them! Ha, lucky for me I don’t give up  easily and as I suspected when I checked the Frontier Communications Tower(FCT) from the bridge I saw a falcon on the 2nd arm of that tower. I spotted a Cormorant in the river and stopped to film it as it kept looking up. Now at the time I didn’t hear him but when I played the video on my computer I found out what the cormorant was looking up at-Orion singing a song. Now how I missed that I have no idea! lol

Anyway, I walked over to City Hall and on the way I spotted a beautiful female Cardinal in a bush on the front lawn of the Rochester Plaza Hotel. My favorite songbird so I had to stop and take a pic and I could see that the falcon was now on the top arm of FCT. When I got to the FCT, initially I thought it was Orion on the arm but after looking at my pics on the computer I realize it was Dot.Ca(DC) I found Beauty on the top beam of the lower red section of the tower looking pretty sleepy and DC was looking down at her as she was directly below him.

DC stooped off to the east over the river like a rocket and returned just as fast landing on the 2nd arm northeast side of FCT. Now I took a walk down the alley behind the Frontier building to see the front of DC and I found a couple of poison rat traps along the way. All I could think of was all the Red-tailed Hawks in Central Park that have died from eating poisoned rats making me very thankful that Peregrines don’t eat rats! I then went up to the top of the Sister Cities garage for a better view of my surroundings and naturally as soon as I got settled in DC flew off very fast to the west. I followed him as far as I could until he went poof into the horizon. 10 minutes later Beauty was gone too! Here we go again!! I left the garage and made my way back to Exchange St. where I found DC under the northwest wing of the TSB. After a few minutes he flew up and perched on the gridwork above him.

DC now has a little color on his front especially when he is in the shade as it shows in my pics today. It can be very confusing when trying to ID our falcons these days. DC jumped back down to the ledge and I decided it was time to end my watch. I wish I had seen more of Orion but I gotta smile for having seen all 3 of our downtown Rochester Peregrine Falcons today! 🙂
