You may have noticed that Dot.ca (DC) hasn’t been spending as much time as usual at the Times Square nest box. As it turns out, one of our stalwart falcon watchers found DC spending time with another female at a site she regularly checks for migrating falcons. It looks like he and his new female have started nesting and might be sitting on eggs.
Dot.ca is doing what tiercels in close proximity to more than one female do, they spread their seed. He is trying to reproduce as many young as possible. DC is not thinking about the stress this causes both females. So, please don’t judge him by human standards. He is a Peregrine Falcon after all.
This site is unprotected, so we will not be sharing its location, but be assured both sites will be monitored by local watchers. Due to this situation, we ask that no reports or pictures be posted.
Thank you,
June

A third egg arrived a little earlier than we expected Thursday afternoon at 3:31 pm. Beauty usually averages between 58-59 hours between eggs. It was only 56 hours between her 2nd and 3rd egg. Nothing is ever certain in the world of the Peregrine Falcon! 🙂

Posted in Rochester Falcons | Comments Off on 2018! Another Successful Year for the Rochester Falcons!
January 2nd, 2019
The Rochester Falcon Watchers gathered in front of the Times Square Bldg for the annual toast to the Rochester Falcons. Nine watchers gathered on the side of the Blue Cross Arena (aka Rochester War Memorial); Dan, Kathy O, Pat, Dana, Carol (lukka) from Buffalo, Joyce, Lisa McK, Dana and Carol P. The winds were gusting and it was very cold.
Just as we arrived, Beauty and Dot.ca flew in to witness the toast. They usually do! 🙂
This year’s toast was done by long time falcon watcher, Dan. We gave thanks to a successful 2018 and hoped for a happy and successful 2019. We also said a fond farewell to our good friend Donna.
Over the last few days, watchers have seen all of the Rochester Falcons. Beauty and Dot.ca downtown, Billie and her new beau at ST, two visitors at the BS location and Fission (from Canada) continues to hangout nearby. We’ve also seen other falcons migrating through the area.
We are very thankful for all of our falcon fans and family. May 2019 be a happy and healthy year for all of us!

Thanks once again to the generosity of our dedicated falcon supporters, we raised over $1,800 yesterday, including a $500 bonus for the outstanding teamwork demonstrated by those who stayed up late to make their pledges at just the right time. Well done, folks!
ROC the Day officials will send us a financial statement and donor list sometime in the next few weeks, at which point we will know who to thank individually. Until then, thank you to everyone who donated. Your contributions will be used to fund Rfalconcam operations and improvements throughout 2019 such as the new Main Camera, a new Camera 1 (weather permitting) and long-awaited HD streaming video.
