Fledge Watch 6-23-15
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
When I left home for my watch at 5am it was raining with thunder and lightning and still dark with the temperature in the 70’s
I went directly to State St. across from the Rochester Plaza Hotel to check on Cadence. She was still on the northeast corner of her 4 story building. The storm was letting up to a light shower and the big girl was kinda wet. I left her to look for the rest of the family and I managed to find them before returning to keep an eye on Cadence. I found Genesee eating on Crossroads, Dot.ca (DC) on the jail tower and Beauty under the northeast wing of Times Square. I wish I could have been looking for little ace Bronx. On the way back to share space with our little adventurer Cadence, I spotted Genesee on the Powers building. Larry stopped by on his way to work.
I would spend the next 4 hours with Cadence as she dried out, napped, preened, watched sparrows in a tree below her and take a few walks for herself around the building. I’ve never seen a juvie that liked to walk so much. Carla joined me just before Cadence flew off to the east heading toward the river behind me at 10am. I was grateful that she didn’t fly down low as State St. is one of the busiest streets downtown. I really didn’t like her going toward the river either but she made out ok.
During this time people watching the cams were seeing Beauty, DC and Genesee visit the Powers and Crossroads (CRX) buildings. Thank you window watcher Pat and cam watchers Donna, Ei, Carol and Shaky for helping while I watched Cadence. I saw the 3 of them doing some awesome flying together today. DC flew over us a few times chirping-landed on the top arm of the Frontier Communications Tower (FCT) then landed on a northeast corner of Powers building.
DC was flying all over the place high, low, fast, slow and he was joined by Beauty and Genesee. Cadence was awol as she wouldn’t be positively ID’d until just after I ended my watch. Joyce joined the watch around 11am and as she spotted a juvie on the north side of OCSR I decided to go up on the South Ave. garage for a good view of things. I believe it was Cadence on the 2nd ibeam but couldn’t say for sure-Beauty was on top ibeam above
They both flew off while I was watching DC fly in chirping and landing on the top ibeam near the south corner of OCSR. I came down from the garage roof to find Beauty had joined her mate. I could see no juvies so I went up to the roof of the Sister Cities garage where I found Genesee on the west side second railing of the Powers building. He did some seriously fast preening and then he flew off.
Susan and Brian joined the watch around 3pm so I left them to help Joyce as I ended my 10 hour watch. I saw some great flying this afternoon and Cadence moved forward giving me reasons to go home smiling! 🙂
