Fledge Watch 6-24-15
June 24th, 2015By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
It was a little chilly at the start with the temperature in the 50’s but it turned out to be a nice sunny day
I dedicate this report to our littlest fledgling Bronx
I stopped on the Broad St. Bridge to speak to Dan about Bronx before going to check on the falcons -sad times for all those who loved him. I found Beauty to be under the northeast wing of Times Square (TSB) Cadence on the east side roof of Wilder and Dot.Ca (DC) on the top ibeam west corner of OCSR. The adults did most of the flying today mostly DC as they landed on Powers, Crossroads, OCSR, Mercury and Times Square. Genesee hung out with Cadence on Wilder for a bit. He knocked Beauty off a vent and basically acted like a young male fledgling-silly. Cadence kept close to the chimney most of the day not showing interest in flying. Girls take longer than boys in flying skills-she’ll get there when she’s ready. Larry stopped quick before work.
Genesee flew off to the Reynolds Arcade building on Main St. between OCSR and Crossroads. I call it his jungle gym as he loves flying, jumping and running on the various bumps and levels on it. One of the adults dropped food off and Genesee had a whole bird which at first looked like a big pigeon wing to me until he flew across with it in his talons. I believe it was an Eastern Kingbird. He plucked a few feathers then cached it and daddy came over twice trying to take it but Genesee rushed him both times and DC flew off escaping with his life! lol Seems that Genesee is a chip off the old block where food is concerned.
I spent most of my watch in the hole as there wasn’t much activity-Patty joined me and was a big help. She kept an eye on Cadence in case she flew off while I took a ride around looking for Genesee a couple times as we didn’t see him for a while at one point. Mom and dad did a few fly bys but Cadence and Genesee weren’t much into it today. Genesee might have been tired and/or sore from all the flying he did yesterday, Cadence probably was just glad to stay somewhere familiar after the last few days she’s had.
Genesee kept disappearing and reappearing on the Reynolds Arcade building-he seems a bit hyper at times! He flew over to Wilder for a short visit and then he was off out of sight for quite a while.
As you can see, Genesee was the entertainment for today with Cadence feeling secure by the Wilder chimney. Hopefully she’ll come out and show herself tomorrow so i can get more pics of her than today. After driving around and finding Genesee on the northeast side second ibeam from the Radisson Hotel by Bragdon Place I found that I could see both Genesee and Cadence from the Andrews St. bridge. Genesee perched on the Crossroads window washing apparatus for a few minutes. I ended my watch there, 10 hours after I started it at 5:30am as I waited for Joyce to relieve me.
Although it’s hard to swallow that Bronx is gone, we must remember that there are still 2 young juvies to watch over and they will turn our sadness into smiles as we all work through it! 🙂
